UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: This competition is now closed!

Many of you know that just recently I was in Las Vegas attendng the HP Discover 2011 as part of a group of bloggers invited to cover the event. During the conference we had a competition and some bloggers won the rights to giveaway awesome prizes.

We secured a HP Proliant Microserver to giveaway to one of our readers. This incredibly small server can be used at home or office, and is compatible with Windows and Linux - operating system is not included so you can install whatever is more suited to your needs. Detailed HP Proliant Microserver specs.

Now, it's not a requirement, but I'd like you to show your appreciation to HP for this opportunity by visiting the Discovering HP meta blog website I put together linking to all other bloggers and blog posts I could find from our group attending the conference. From Discovering HP you will get a good overview of this conference.

How to enter the competition (make sure you read it):

1
. Reply to this thread with what you have now and why you think this HP Microserver will benefit your office, or your home setup.;

2. You get an extra entry if your entry has a picture of your existing rig. Remember to upload the picture to Geekzone, then use the Compose Reply button to post your reply with the picture. Do not post in a separate entry. Also you can only edit your post in the first 15 minutes, so have the picture ready before posting.

3. If you are on Twitter and want additional entries then use the retweet button below to post to Twitter about this competition. You can send this out once a day and will get one extra entry per day. Note the strict only one entry per day rule. No Twitter spam. Also you only get additional entries on Twitter if you replied to this thread first.

The fineprint:
This competition is open until the 6th July, when a single entry will be drawn. Open to New Zealand, Australian, United States and Canadian residents only. No purchase necessary. Previously banned users are not eligible to win. Only one reply in this topic. Multiple entries in this topic will invalidate all your entries. The prize will be sent from the United States. If the winner is a United States resident a W9 form is required before prize can be sent. If you can't see a Twitter button please enable it in your Geekzone user profile or make sure you are not running an ad blocker.

Important
This topic most likely will receive hundreds of replies. If you don't want to receive notifications make sure you uncheck the "email notification" box when posting your reply, or update your profile to receive hourly or daily notifications only.

You can find a list of other HP giveaways from fellow bloggers here.

Hmm only HP stuff I have is a DV6 laptop, and a 1Tb HP external HDD, but having the server as a NAS would be great esp if I could get the PS3 playing stuff off it :)

My home "server" is very out of date IBM SFF PC with a 250GB disk in it.  It would be a huge improvement for me to have a proper server with some redundancy across multiple disks.  My wife would also like to not have the server around anymore and something this small would sit up in my roof.  We could store the family photos and video on the server.

No server but I really need one. Sharing externals drives off a laptop is not much of a home network.

'Lo, for tales of the airport run long with my friends, tales of a server that was louder then it should be. Through many incarnations, did it toil and sweat, but now comes the time of it's deepest discontent, and it needs to be put out to greener pastures - hence an HP Microserver would be it's best bet.

(excuse the poetry, I don't know what came over me!)

I currently use a combination of an old external HDD and a VPS to store important files and media, and it would be useful to have a decent NAS/server device to do this with.

No server at the mo, but after the lap top and old PC blew, would be useful to have a server so shared files can be secure if i need to reformat my pc, also i wouldnt get kicked off my pc everytime the wife ones to study as i could link up my next build to it;)

This would be great - I'm currently using an older atom powered eeepc laptop as my server!

Currently using a Pentium 3 with 256mb ram on windows 2000 as my file server.

This would be a HUGE upgrade and most likely save me on power :)

In a home with 5 people and around 7 computers, but no server or NAS; it would be most useful to have a server for file sharing, backup and to connect the two printers to. Also would give me some more geek credibility with my boss next time I try to convince him we need a NAS at work.

I will install ESXi and throw a few operating systems to play.... its luxury to have one at home.

Currently have a small D-Link NAS, its a little underpowered for a flat of 5.

Would be awesome to have a proper server, I would run it as a NAS for our backups, and probably mythbuntu to share media between us.
