xpd: The Martian - recently read the book so was interested to see how they dealt with the movie. Really enjoyed it, but not as much as the book :)

I thought the special effects were actually pretty awesome. Worth watching for that. I don't recall the plot in any specific way, but wasn't watching for that!

Have to agree with MikeB4. It's atrocious. Even the visuals aren't worth the time it takes to watch it. Heard a review on a podcast the other day that nailed it. It could have been a really clever film and a couple of scenes where they had to MacGyver themselves out of a predicament were completely forgotten by the dozens more scenes where they didn't have to be clever, they just had to try harder. A certain CPR scene is a great example.
The CPR scene was awful, agreed. Still don't think it was as bad as you are making out across the whole movie.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
MikeB4: As a boatie one thing bugged me the whole boat thing. It would have been history very fast. As for driving an outboard through debris filled sea yeah right . yamahas are good but not that good.

The ads make it look somewhat like a one-man-play.
Is it?

Jesus that was a kick in the feels. Not a dry eye in the cinema.

I think the idea is to switch your brain off watching these types of movies. :) It would have made for even less entertainment had we of actually seen what was truly possible :)
