I thought the special effects were actually pretty awesome. Worth watching for that. I don't recall the plot in any specific way, but  wasn't watching for that!

The Martian - recently read the book so was interested to see how they dealt with the movie. Really enjoyed it, but not as much as the book :)
8/10

The ads make it look somewhat like a one-man-play.

Is it?

Have to agree with MikeB4.  It's atrocious.  Even the visuals aren't worth the time it takes to watch it.  Heard a review on a podcast the other day that nailed it.  It could have been a really clever film and a couple of scenes where they had to MacGyver themselves out of a predicament were completely forgotten by the dozens more scenes where they didn't have to be clever, they just had to try harder.  A certain CPR scene is a great example.

The CPR scene was awful, agreed. Still don't think it was as bad as you are making out across the whole movie.

I think the idea is to switch your brain off watching these types of movies. :) It would have made for even less entertainment had we of actually seen what was truly possible :)

Yeah the trailer reminded me of the movie Moon, also a great movie but The Martian probably has more similarities to Gravity.

The Martian is definitely on my to watch list.

Kopkiwi: Everest 10/10

Jesus that was a kick in the feels. Not a dry eye in the cinema.

If you enjoyed the film you should definitely look out a copy of Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, awesome account of the same incident. An absolute un-put-downable book

^^^

Better yet; take your brain out, and store it carefully somewhere before going to see these types of hollywood popcorn flicks.
