Trademe.

Yes...I know.
But there's a whole lot of reasons - too many to list.

Frustrating that they haven't been able to be toppled by any decent competition.

Schools really do have the most incompetent HR and people management.

"Please apply for leave for a position that we haven't formally offered you." You really can't make some stuff up.

Preach!!

Sold something a couple weeks ago, the buyer clicked Buy now, then nothing.
Because clicking buy now absolves you of any responsibility to reach out first apparently.
After 3 days they responded 'because my email went to spam'.

But it gets better, because I'm apparently a sucker for punishment and thought second time would be better, but not like this...

Despite being ~$40 cheaper than the next closest equivalent, immediately hit with a fixed price 20% lower again. Cheeky $%^&.
Sold day 1 with buy now.
6 hours later I reach out asking how they want to pickup/courier.
36 hours later I get an email from a complete stranger with the Trademe subject line asking 'When can I pick up'
43 hours later I respond and ask then to verify the original buyers details to ensure I'm not being scammed
47 hours after it was sold, I have no had any communications from the person who actually bought the Goddamn thing and now trying to figure out if I have been scammed.

The best part by far? The real pickle in the feces sandwich?
I've paid $13 dollars for this experience! Thank you Trademe!
That's a lot of my time wasted and added anxiety for only $13!! What a bargain!

EUGH!!

If you read this far, I appreciate you. Typing this out was quite cathartic and helped me see the funny side..

The worse thing is that they started to let people message you in the app, but not think that if you never look at the app and don't have it allowed to give notifications that you will have no way to know that they have messaged you in the thing that they added and didnt even make people opt into having.

It's a bit like Facebook marketplace. I didn't realise the messages in there have their own container so probably half the people never look. I didn't realise until I tried to sell something and had no interest then found this message inbox.

Either that or people just ignore the message in the first place.

Calling my dealership to get a quote for servicing my car now it's 5 years old. They have serviced it from new, and they have remote access to the car, and have known about my car since 2020.

They say they don't have a recent scan of my key and so can't provide a quote. I'll need to bring the car in.  I explain to the woman they have serviced my car from new and will have a full service history, plus as recently as a couple of weeks ago they accessed my car for a minor diagnostic I required. She insists I need to bring it in, I refuse, she calls over the service manager who repeats the same nonsense.

I tell him the BMW service place near to my office was able to quote without any of that, and how can they not know.

Turns out it wasn't even a serviced required (despite the service required warning on the dashboard, it was a reminder about the WOF I had done 6 weeks ago!).

I honestly wonder how some of these companies stay in business. I've been driving 30 years and have NEVER been asked to bring my car in for a QUOTE to service.

They are in business because most people would bring it in and pay the diagnostics fee and accept whatever made up work they said was required for it, which makes them money for nothing.

They wanted to scan the key. Said it would take 30 seconds and not cost anything. I guess though it's easier for them to get the service booked once I am there rather than giving me a price over the phone. So annoying

So, buyers on Trade Me can message me through an app, that I don't have, instead of using the email address details listed on the sale confirmation email from Trade Me?

Exhibit 3658 of why “premium” German car brands no longer make objectively premium cars or provide premium experiences. It’s more and more aspirational marketing and less and less anything really special.

It’s really no wonder the German car industry is in the toilet. It’s very sad.

The funny thing is that when I was telling some elderly person here how good the tesla service was with the app, they thought it was terrible because they want to talk to someone.

If only the manufacturer had imprinted a unique identification number on a name plate somewhere on the car.

Oh wait…

I noticed I had lots of messages via the app that I had never seen, because it doesn't also email you. It seems a mess of a platform now.

I dunno, I still consider my car pretty premium. I love driving it, I love being in it. 5 Years on, I still smile almost every time I get in it.  Overall my experience has been very good, I'd buy another, but the gap has closed I'll admit. The BYD Seal Performance is an outstanding car for the money.

But my experience with the dealer has been... disappointing.

Got me a negative because the seller was only using that and not emails.
