If only the manufacturer had imprinted a unique identification number on a name plate somewhere on the car.
Oh wait…

Yeah, upon reflection, it seems like the idea is if you make the effort to come in, you are less likely to walk away at the much higher price they charge for service over another service agent perhaps.

My car has an app and it's pretty comphrehensive.

It's nutty with the size display I have, they couldn't say your WOF was due rather than you required a service.

That would require them know what a WOF is when they write the software and have the options for it. I guess they could regionalize the name of the government inspection but all it would do is reduce the number of people going to the dealer for no reason that can be sold nitrogen for their tyres or premium washer fluid or whatever other bulldust they are peddling that week.

I'm confident they are smart enough that they could have found a way to handle this without referring to it as a 'service' which has a pretty global meaning when it comes to car maintainence.

Exhibit 3658 of why “premium” German car brands no longer make objectively premium cars or provide premium experiences. It’s more and more aspirational marketing and less and less anything really special.

It’s really no wonder the German car industry is in the toilet. It’s very sad.

I dunno, I still consider my car pretty premium. I love driving it, I love being in it. 5 Years on, I still smile almost every time I get in it.  Overall my experience has been very good, I'd buy another, but the gap has closed I'll admit. The BYD Seal Performance is an outstanding car for the money.

But my experience with the dealer has been... disappointing.

There is a big and widening gap in reliability with many of the “premium” brands and the much better designed Asian manufacturers. The widespread use of plastics to reduce cost in engine components is a classic example. BMW is better than Mercedes or VAG but they have gone the same way.

A Lexus is an objectively better premium brand than most German brands today.

The thing that makes the BMW experience, is the iDrive. It's just intuitive and works so well. Combined with the HUD and pretty decent driving dynamics.  I haven't driven a Lexus in many years. When it comes time to, I'll consider them.

Unfortunately, in electric, my car doesn't exist at anywhere near a price point I'd be happy to pay.

Unfortunately that will have zero effect.  People already don't read the details in the ad for basic things like "pick up only" or "no swaps".

Can I get someone to pick it up? Then ends up trying to send a prepaid courier label for you to pack and print out and attach.

Not necessarily small and annoying but I need a winge.

We went out for a meal tonight. The place was nothing special but is highly rated online.

We shared a main to start, then each had a main, a naan and a beer.

$135 !

We don't mind paying for quality, but the curry really wasn't anything we couldn't do at home (we're pretty adept at curries) and there was only 4 or 5 pieces of meat in each dish.

The service was ok, we were pretty much left alone the whole meal, and we walked out, looked at each other and said, did that really just cost $135?

At a rough guess the shared main got charged as 2 mains.

I only ever check what we ordered is what is listed on the bill they hand over, I don't check the prices as well.

The receipt had the correct mains, naan and beers so I tapped and we left.

It wasn't until we got to the door I saw $135 on the receipt.

I then did some quick maths. Beers 2x10, naan 2x10, leaving 95 for 3 mains. So thought yep, pricey, but correct.

It doesn't seem that long ago our local place was $100 for five of us, excluding beer though.

$135 !

You must not be one of those people who check the price of items before ordering them. Each to his own!
