Yeah I didnt enjoy it as much, but did give you a bit more background info. "Cube" was the best out of them.

Adding another vote for the Martian. Really excellent. Plenty to keep you going through the whole film, even plenty of humor. I enjoyed the whole film so much, I had to pee about an hour in and just held it so I didn't miss anything - no ragrets.

When I watched it, I simply turned my brain off...thereafter I simply enjoyed the ride.

I really enjoyed it.

The Maze Runner - 6.2/10 (Netflix)

My wife has read the books and enjoyed them, so we watched the first of these movies on Netflix (with the knowledge that the sequel was in theatres). Coming to it cold without having read the books meant I didn't pick up on all the references, but my wife said that it was a reasonably faithful adaptation, with a few cuts made for obvious theatrical reasons.

I quite enjoyed it. It's part of a growing stable of "YA" film franchises like Hunger Games and Divergent (we won't mention the horror that is Twilight - urgh!). For me, Hunger Games is the current standard to measure against (Divergent was okay)- Maze Runner isn't as good as Hunger Games, but I thought it was better than Divergent. The plot revolves around a group of boys (young men) who have had their memories wiped and dumped in "The Glade" over a period of about 3 years. The Glade is surrounded by The Maze, and about once a month a new person arrives via a lift, along with supplies. The latest arrival is Thomas, and he's the main protagonist. He's "curious", and upsets the balance of the Glade by challenging their rules and preconceptions. He's particularly interested in the Maze, and what lies behind.

The main problem I had with the film is it's deliberate vagueness - CinemaSins have done an excellent job of skewering this flaw in their "Everything Wrong With..." series, and it's the first time I've really noticed (while watching the film) how deliberately obscure the characters were being. But otherwise, the actors do a reasonably good job, and the plot is pretty engaging.

The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials - 6/10 (theatre)

Saw this last Friday, having watched the first one just a week earlier. The great thing about it was that it just jumped into the action, picking up where the last one left off. So there was less time spent in exposition and set-up, and more action. However, that was also one of the main problems I had with the second film - the action set pieces felt very repetitive. The film felt padded out by the addition of very similar action set pieces that didn't really advance the story in any way. It was also riddled with annoying plot holes (like, why do soldiers that have taser rifles bother to jump out of helicopters into life-threatening live-fire situations when they - apparently - also have taser grenades? Why not just scatter them around and then gather up all the stunned bodies?)

Despite this, it was reasonably enjoyable. The first film was a little better, but I was pleased to see Aiden Gillen turn up and riff on his GoT character. The cast and world expansion work in the film's favour, and it started to feel a little like the Resident Evil franchise which followed a similar progression (of the first two films at least). According to the wife, though, the second film departed from the book a bit more than the first.

Watched Selma the other day. So Flipping good. Just watch it, you wont regret it.

Watched Pixels with the intention of being able to mock it.... and didn't hate it the way I expected. Yea its a dumb Adam Sandler movie, but based on his movies in the last 5 years it wasn't any where near as bad as I expected. Got enough chuckles to be worthy of the time and money spent.

Watched a couple of films over the last few days on iPad.

Terminator Genisys: A good yarn, with a few good nods to the prior movies in the franchise. Odd to have new Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor actors while keeping the terminator as Arnie (yes, I know why they did it).

Action aplenty, thin(ish) plot - based on the usual Terminator stuff, but in an alternate timeline.
Fun for all the family. 7/10

Automata: An interesting take on the "post apocalyptic future" theme...only this is not a nuclear holocaust, but environmental destruction that's been wrought and the earth's inhabitants number only in the tens of millions.
The Automata in the film are fairly generic/basic robots made to help the human race post global meltdown. "The Corporation" that makes the robots has made sure that there are two laws that govern the robots - they can not be self-altering and they cannot harm a living being.
The story is around the life of an insurance agent that works for the corporation (Antonio Banderas) and his discovery of self-repairing and gradually more sentient robots...a good movie with a bit of an indie feel about it. 8/10

I liked Iron Man, I actually wrote a review of Iron Man on my blog. I would link it here but I don't know if I'm allowed.

I just saw Jobs for the second time. I hated it the first time because it didn't add anything new from what was in the TV Movie Pirates in Silicon Valley. The second time I liked the Jobs movie more, but it still sucked. I'd say 0 stars. I don't think I'll even bother reviewing it.

Want to see: Age of Ultron, Ex Machina, Chappie, and The Martian.

xpd: "Cube" was the best out of them.

Cube is an awesome movie, I opted for eXistenZ which was playing at the cinema at the same time, but mainly because my sister I was with doesn't like horror. I then watched Cube on video. I haven't seen the sequels and have no intention of, or wish to.

Kingsman: The Secret Service 5/10 Harmless way to spend a couple of hours.

Jupiter Ascending 1/10 Awful. You'd never believe the same guys made The Matrix. Time to retire.

Love And Other Drugs 8/10 Humorous and sometimes thought provoking. Oh and plenty of sex and nudity, never a bad thing in my opinion. A real spark between Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway as well.

Watched the new Keanu Reeves movie last night Knock Knock it's about a guy who lets a couple of young girls/women into his house late at night and the events from then on.....

Not too bad although I don't think the story would be enjoyed by all as it gets a bit messed up at times. If you like messed up/Keanu Reeves or movies like Hard Candy then check it out.
