MadEngineer:

Something that shocked my wife when she came to nz was finding how pakeha families treat the elderly.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1204879858344627

The comments on this reflect that, some need to learn that in most other cultures the family will be at their side doing the nursing.  An idea that seems completely foreign to Kiwis.

Wonder how much the housing generation gap has had a role in it?

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

I drink a lot of coffee...milky, frothy, freshly ground coffee.
I use A2 milk as it doesn't have any nasty side-effects on my digestive system (normal milk unfortunately does).

A2 Milk from Anchor is no longer available in NZ. There was no public announcement. It just stopped being on shelves.
According to this landing page on the A2 Milk web page, it's just not available.
https://a2milk.nz/

We are sad to say that a2 Milk™ by Anchor™ is no longer available under the Anchor™ brand in the New Zealand market. We are working through options to make a2 Milk™ available to our New Zealand consumers again. We do not have anything to share right now but we will provide an update as soon as we can.
In the meantime, a2 Milk™ Full Cream UHT 200ml is available in Costco. a2 Milk™ Premium Instant Milk Powder in Full Cream and Skim is available in selected Chemist Warehouse stores and online.
If you have any further questions, please reach out to the a2™ Careline team on 0800 22 46 32.

I've just found an alternative fom Fresha Valley at a supermarket halfway across town. $6.95 for 2L.
My local doesn't sell it.
I don't like milk alternatives - Almond, Soy, Oat etc. Plus it's expensive (although so is A2).
I will now be travelling across town to get milk.

It's annoying.

I don't know where you are but in the Waikato area and some places outside of the Waikato you can buy Jersey Girl A2 organic milk. I find it very good for tea, coffee or anywhere you use milk. Many New Worlds sell it as do some specialty shops

Unrestrained dogs with low or no recall.

Actually it's the owners that annoy me more but the dog is the symptom of that.

Ran into a dog this evening while out running.  Yes, literally ran into it.  Some staffy shaped thing ran at me then turned across my path so it got a solid knee driven into it's side as hard as I could manage in order to make sure it was moved and I didn't go flying.  All the owner managed was a "hey" from some 20m away as I prepared to throw a punch at the dog.

He then managed a "sorry" as I passed.  Only reason I elected not to engage was that an intense discussion would have thrown off my pace target for the run.  Otherwise he was in line for a total bollocking.

Sure, it may be an off leash area but it's also an open public area (Hutt River trails) so if you don't have full control, put the bloody thing on a leash and keep it away from people who are not interested in being "attacked" by your mongrel.

When the dog is running directly at me, I will aim to defend myself in whatever way I need to as I cannot be sure what the intent of the dog is.  Having been rushed at by many dogs when riding or running, bitten by one and ridden into another, I have zero hesitation in protecting myself as necessary.

Yeah, we have a quite reactive small fluffy dog that is deaf and going blind.

We keep him on a leash all the time and the number of idiots that either have no control over their animals or actually try and introduce their precious pup even after we’ve warned them he might not be friendly, just stuns me.

I was half expecting the normal stupid comment of "he's friendly".  To which my reply would have been "I'm not".

I'm not out there to entertain their dogs.  If I want to interact with dogs I'll spend time with dog owning friends whose dogs are a known quantity.

It's like any speciality dietary product, the manufacturer will milk it for all its worth.

Same with GF weetbix, only available in the smallest box size and works out to be about thrice the price.

Asus. Reasonably expensive high end notebook for my wife up and died after less than a year. Inclduing ordering parts and with the backlog of work, could be as much as 3 weeks before we get it back from the only accredited service company in the North Island!

Woman took dogs into Tongariro, posed with 'no dogs' sign

A woman who defied conservation law by taking several dogs into Tongariro National Park and posting photos publicly on social media, including one holding a pooch in front of a "no dogs" sign, has been fined $400.
In response to a comment on the post, the woman wrote: "My dogs loved loved it was a good few minutes of joy well worth being a law breaker (sic)." The post was later deleted.

Awful woman. They should increase the maximum allowable fine.

Fines are too low, but I don’t know what kind of deterrent an idiot like this would take to cease this kind of brain dead behaviour.

That's amateur hour compared with forcibly revaluing her house down by 60%.
