Getting sick on a work trip and sleeping like crap. It sucks when it’s 4 nights in a row.

I’m looking forward to getting but not so much to six hours on a plane tomorrow

Chances of getting sick on the flight there seems to be the problem. My colleagues and I have this issue too and our regular flight to the onsite week is only 1.5h-4h depending on team member origin. Someone always seems to be coughing on day 2. I think it is the Aussies coming in on TT flights.

Ah... I remember, back in the '94, I was working on a project for a client, about 600km from home. Morning comes in, I look at the mirror and I see lots of spots. And itchy.

Yep, just a month before my wedding I got chickenpox. And obviously couldn't fly home.

I feel your pain. Sleep disturbances can really mess with one and cause systemic impacts. Take some Borocca or a V but not 8 Vs I hear that can be bad.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I get you

Do you use an iPhone? I use the Remote on that, left down swipe on top right of home screen. Its a nice upgrade for typing and swiping

I use an iPhone and use the remote on the phone if the Apple TV remote is AWOL. Sometimes its makes it way right though the sofa and onto the floor. It has to stay there until my wife comes home and can fetch it. Sometimes I leave there for a few days so it can think about what it has done.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Intermittent car problems. About once a week my wife will get out of her car to a burning smell and notice that the right rear wheel and brake disk are extremely hot. Obviously a sticking calliper or some other issue that’s not allowing the brake pas to back away from the disks. We’ve taken it to two different mechanics and they’ve never been able to replicate the issue and state that everything is fine.

Took it to a 3rd mechanic and after explaining the issue I just asked them to replace the calliper. Bring the car back in 2 days after they’ve sourced the parts and leave it with them. Get a call that afternoon to say everything is done and to come pick up the car. Get to the mechanic and he tells me they checked everything over and couldn’t find any issue so they haven’t replaced anything and there will be no charge. He seemed quite pleased that he was doing me a favour.

I couldn’t be bothered arguing with him so I just took the keys and drove home. Guess what I found when I get home? Yep, burning smell and red hot rear right wheel and brake disk!

If you're in Wellington, give Coutour Brakes a call.  They'll have a look and most likely give the caliper(s) a rebuild with new seals etc.

Elsewhere, find a brake specialist rather than a general mechanic.

What medical facility does not whitelist the email addresses of their own patients??!!

Probably all of them. If you have thousands of patients, maintaining that whitelist would be a constant issue. Who would think to notify their medical facility if you changed email addresses?

How recent is the car? Is there any chance that the brakes are ok but there's something wrong with stability control and the right rear brake is being applied unnecessarily? Normally it would be sticking pads or sliders but would 3 mechanics miss that?

Have you tried following the car and seeing if the brakelights come on frequently?

If the ESC is faulty is should self detect, disable it and light up a warning.

2013 Skoda Yeti. Haven't followed the car to check brake lights but I have an OBDII reader and couldn't detect any faults in the ESC or ABS systems.

Does it have a separate drum brake setup for the park brake?

No the handbrake cable pulls a lever on the disc calliper.  Some cars like Mazda are known for this lever pivot seizing so the lever doesn’t always return to the stop when cable released.

Had a few close calls driving in the weekend. All caused by following distance and people being in a hurry! First one. Traveling on kilmog northern motorway downhill north. Moving truck signals to turn right suddenly and cars behind me all nearly hit me because they were not paying attention and did not stick to the safe following distance.

Second one few days later, pretty much same spot. I travel at 100km. Car is right up behind me all the way down the hill and looks impatient, but has a few chances to pass on the opposite double lane, but doesn't! And then, on first small straight, pulls out and passes me right in front of a line of cars that were very close. My quick reactions braking heavily to let them in avoids head on. Oncoming van flashes lights in anger! Rental vehicle that passed me. Angers me because if they had of waited 300 meters, there was a big clear passing spot.

Ugh. Yesterday it bucketed down with rain, and I got in the car about a minute after it dropped off to something more manageable. In short, the roads were still very wet.

Ute in front of me is sitting at a red light, then as soon as it goes green proceeds to absolutely floor the thing. Black smoke billows out of the exhaust, and he also lost control of the vehicle and slid down the road at about a 30 degree angle (but regained control).

As for following distance, I was driving down the Matata Straights (around 10 km of mostly-straight road), behind one other car. Both of us were doing about 98. A ute comes up behind me and proceeds to sit close to my bumper. After a minute or so of this, it overtook me and sat behind the other car's bumper (it was so close that I could barely see the other car even when it went around one of the corners). Soon it overtook this car as well... and then spent the next ten minutes about 100 metres ahead of it. So it wasn't overtaking because we were going too slowly, but just "I must be in front".

So it's a parking brake handle not a switch? My Touareg (VW, Porsche, Audi, Skoda all share components) has rear brakes discs with calipers for the pedal brakes and shoes for the electronic parking brake. The rotor has a built in drum for the parking brake. I'm told that when the parking brake pads are replaced they can be a fiddle to adjust so they aren't rubbing.
