That was the positive thing to come out of the good news that there was going to be wind and rain.
Consumer NZ's 'Powerswitch' website asks many questions about your circumstances, home insulation, which energy sources and appliances you use and so on - but fails to include any consideration of EV or hybrid car charging. Seems to be a glaring omission. WTH.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Its crap. It does nothing about checking when you use power or how much can be moved to the free periods, and it keeps recommending powershop to me as it will save me money but no information about what the actual rates are just says that it assumes that I buy all the packs.

Yeah it seems if you want to be serious about it, you need to collect the companies' prices then put them into a simple spreadsheet where you can dictate the assumptions and control the types of variables you're talking about.

I pointed this omission out to Consumer using the feedback link on the Powerswitch website. Their response is:
"The charging of EVs / Hybrids is not something that we can add to the calculator yet as there is not enough data in the public domain for us to utilise to do this. We do have some FAQs for this in our Hints and tips section."
Sounds weak to me - what public domain data would they need to be able to include car charging in their calculator?

Having to write 160 lines of code to make a system behave incorrectly. Incorrectly? Yes, because the client is demanding that it works a certain way, even though that way is backwards. Of course, the development environment makes it hard to do the wrong thing, hence the extra 160 lines of code.

We wouldn't be needing tools like Powerswitch if Max Bradford hadn't meddled with the electricity sector in the way he did.
"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover
"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Why is that - what would be different?

If you guys really want to do this can it be in the political forum please?

Nah - was interested in the comment but not that much. Was a genuine question, not a provocation. It sounds like an opinion rather than a fact.

It's fairly complex with some elements of truth but also very political.
Something in the way I’m typing makes me frequently type the second letter of capitalised words also as a capital. It’s like I’m not releasing the shift key quickly enough before pressing the next letter. No, it’s not sticky. Yes, I’m using the shift key on the opposite side to the key I’m capitalising.
Small. Really annoying.
When you're going about your day, and something small really annoys you, and you think I must remember to put that in the Something Small That Really Annoys You thread, and when you're next on GZ, you can't remember what the really small thing was, probably because it was really small.
Delete cookies?! Are you insane?!
