I was looking at getting one of those drawers when they were on sale. If not damaged by the courier, would you say they are any good? Like do the drawers slide well or do they bind up unless you push it totally square?

Believe it or not - that's not damage caused by a courier. It was so well packaged, I think you'd have to destroy the box to damage the cabinet in transit.

The drawers don't have any kind of mechanism. The drawers have a small lip, which sits on a small slider that is clipped into the side of the cabinet. It requires absolute precision in manufacturing to work and if there is any kind of deviation in size/movement the drawers will simply fall off the lip and you'll see what I have posted.
The reason those drawers fell out was because the tolerances are so minute that the drawers have nothing to run on/sit on.

I'd avoid buying any of these types of drawer sets from MA. If they have a version with runners or wheels - that may be a different prospect.

I have seen a lot of furniture places putting things on sale recently. I guess with the elephant about to enter the room in December, they want to get rid of stuff now that they know will not move once better options are here. I guess I will be waiting till I can get a helmer alongside some billys and blalidin (cant do the o over the a) that I am planning to get.

Two for one deal day today.

Firstly, when I start my work laptop, open Outlook and Teams, all good so far.  A reminder pops up from Outlook.  I can see the reminder window behind/beside the Teams window so I click on it.  THe reminder window disappears behind the Outlook window and I have to go find it on the task bar again.  So despite it being "on top", another window grabs the focus.

Secondly, today, Teams decides I need the new version and forces me to update.

I click the download button.  Window changes for a bit then pops up with Select Account.

I select my account and it thinks for a few seconds then returns me to the "You need to upgrade, please download Teams" window.

Repeat forever.

Yet again, the KPI for the Win 11 team is "machines on desks" rather than "working machines".

Mine's also doing that.

Needed Helpdesk to copy the installer over so I could run it manually.  They advised that "Teams may revert itself back to the old version and need further fixing".  *sigh*

Sounds like the endless loop of "you are running an unlicenced copy of MS Office" that I get.
Despite the fact that it's a corporate machine, operating on a corporate network and we have a deep partnership with MS.

We're told to ignore it and it'll eventually go away.

It doesn't, but everything still works.

Not sure whether this is an annoy or a smile. Yesterday I wrote some ugly code after concluding that there was no nicer way to do it. Today the nicer way was immediately apparent (and refactoring the code was easy).

Sometimes it's so simple you ask "why didn't I think of this before?"

But it happens. A clear head helps.

And sometimes you need to write the dirty code in order to figure out the clean way to do the thing.

Sometimes the bad code is a proof of concept to get the data for other parts that are more difficult. Sometimes the bad code gets rewritten, since that was the plan all along, other times the bad code remains, getting slower and slower as the loops of queries have more and more results. By the time its a problem too many things are built on it to be able to tidy up the database to get it done with less queries and it has to stay like it is.

Got another spam call yesterday, and this time it's from 04-889-4715. Reverse lookup from others suggests it's a silent call.

I tell the users to go forth and test the new system. It's web-based and will be freely available to the public once it completes testing, so there are no usernames or passwords involved. I gave one rule: "Put any gibberish you like in there, but please put your real name in the Name field so I know who to follow up with if something goes wrong". Naturally the one failure we've had so far was someone who put nonsense in the Name field, so I have no idea who it was.

I had a baffling conversation with my ex-wife this morning when I dropped off our kids to her.  She asked what time I would pick them up on Sunday morning.  I said, the usual time - between 8 and 8.30am.

"But that'll be an hour early because of daylight savings, won't it?"

My brain went into recovery mode as I tried to grapple with this statement...

Don't get me wrong - I'm still good friends with my ex-wife, she is very intelligent and well-educated, and I have a lot of respect for her.  But she has (and others, I've found) this weird blindspot when it comes to understanding daylight savings time.

It's not rocket science - change the clock when you go to bed on Saturday (back an hour in April, forward an hour in September), and then - oh, I don't know - READ THE CLOCK and that's the time!  Why do people try and overcomplicate things by trying to work out "what time it REALLY is", like there's some kind of chronological conspiracy hiding the "real" time from us...

It annoys me when a rap artist samples an entire song without credit. The final insult is using autotune on his performance.

It appears E-Dubble neither paid for or officially credited the Parks & Recreation theme in “Hampden Parks.” I'm basing it on currently available public sources.

Well it least it's not AI slop.

This multi virus test kit. Wish I’d watched the video before buying a couple

Instructions on the packet are to install an app. Piss off. Found a video on YouTube and it invokes sticking it up your nostrils then giving it a good lick. Yum.

Then you need to push it down into its receiver and the video shows it clicks. There’s no click and instead a pfffft sound as it seems to squirt the medium upwards. Then to wait 15 minutes but I think something failed with the plunger and nothing is happening.

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.
