Nepotism.
It's bad enough in business, but in sport it's especially egregious.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/360868487/president-donald-trumps-granddaughter-gets-exemption-lpga-tour-tournament

Ranked in the 400's, Trump's grand daughter gets a an exemption to play in a big LPGA tournament because she's got familial connections.
Irrespective of the political implications, this is just nepotism at it's most obvious.
Imagine how all those up and coming golfers who can't make it into one of these tournaments feel when they see this kind of carry-on time and time again, as they miss out on opportunities to shine and grow their sporting careers.

Ambulance!

The A&E department’s are stretched to breaking point. Wait times are many hours I don’t really want to add to that. The annoying thing is I know exactly what is needed and it would take about 5 minutes.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

If you know what's needed your doctor should also know that it wouldn’t take long to deal with. 3 weeks before an appointment isn't acceptable.

Does your doc offer a tele-consult or nurse-practitioner consult? Sometimes you can get those faster and cheaper and they can dish out scripts.

Plus for urgent pain I would expect your practice to fit you in. I am sure mine would. I don't care which of their docs I get.

What is needed is done by injection. I could do it myself or my wife could do it. I already inject medication weekly. The rules state that I must see a doctor for what is needed. The medication is for acute treatment but have to wait three weeks for an appointment for acute treatment. The logic escapes me. I guess Simeon Brown know what he is doing...Yeah Right.

Sorry for that moan just needed to get it off my chest, chronic severe pain is hard to cope with and can generate unpleasant thoughts.

MikeB4: I am experiencing pain levels 8-9/10 and being told by my medical centre that the earliest appointment is three weeks away.

Ime most medical centers will see patients urgently if needed and requested. Usually a nurse will phone to perform a triage and then you're in. All the best Mike I hope you can get some help immediately.

I highly recommend this.  I get it included with my Southern Cross.

It will just show she's as bad at golf as he is at, well, everything.

I hear that people are taking ages to get an appointment to see their doctor, but I can usually get in the next day. I just checked online and there are five free slots tomorrow morning.

It varies, of course.  Earlier in the year ours was four weeks.  Recently it was within a few days.  Worse for dentists.

If you're in that situation, ask if you can be noted to be considered for any cancellations.  A good receptionist should offer that.

Telephone consultations aren't likely to be much help where a physical intervention like an injection is required.

I just checked with my own GP via the appointment app, he's away until 12/11 but 2 of the other GPs are available for normal booking 3/11. Urgent appointments as usual through reception phone. I would be calling back.

Free virtual consults! How did I not know about this? Very handy especially for kids down at Otago (although they have a very cheap student medical service)

I can't quite tell, but does "free" include the usual stuff like getting a prescription or referral? I just paid my GP $30 to get a blood test referral and another $30 to get a Calcium Scan referral. I'll be grumpy if I could have done that for nothing.

I got the blood test referral free. Needed to get some tests done and saw I had free appointments with care HQ through Southern Cross so decided to give it a go. Booked a nurse appointment which would have been $30 at my GP practice (plus the inevitable half hour plus wait in the waiting room as they are always running behind). Had an easy video consultation last Tuesday with a nurse and she sent the test request directly to the lab and emailed me a copy and I went for the tests on the Wednesday morning. The nurse had said results may take 2-3 days so given it was going to be the weekend then labour day I didn’t expect to hear until Tuesday this week but Care HQ emailed me the results at 8.30pm on the Wednesday night, the same day I had them done.

Easy process and fully recommend for things like this where you don’t need anything physically examined.
