Oh look, Southern X premium has gone up again. Four times the inflation rate, again. Oh yes, what you have to remember is that the medical inflation rate is so much higher, again.

It depends on how much you used it. I am very happy as in the last three years I had a $100k surgery, countless MRI and CT scans, specialist consults, a prostate biopsy and another surgery coming up very soon. The service was more value than the premium I paid over the years.

That's true. And we're lucky to have it . But you still notice the rises and wonder how long you can afford it.
Hope everything goes well with you and your upcoming op.

It varies, of course. Earlier in the year ours was four weeks. Recently it was within a few days. Worse for dentists.
If you're in that situation, ask if you can be noted to be considered for any cancellations. A good receptionist should offer that.
Our medical centre has been about three weeks for many months now.
Thanks for the advice folks, much appreciated. After fighting for 25 years I just don’t have it in me to keep fighting a very broken system anymore. One shouldn’t have to fight both. I guess I surrender.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

That sounds a bit alarming Mike. What can we do to help?

Yeah I emailed them to query this (mine actually went up about 23%) and got the standard "sorry you feel that way" response about medical inflation etc. I'm late 30s, generally healthy and have never made a claim, but keep it because it's subsidised through work and I play a lot of sport and tend to get injuries so figure if I do an ACL or something I can get things done privately quicker than the public waiting list. But in saying that when I ruptured my achilles playing tennis I went to ED and got it all sorted through the free system (no surgery though). Thought about dropping it but then the worry would be I then get ill and need it. Was on zero excess so I just added an excess this time to bring the new premium back a bit closer to the last year's.
If everything seems to go up multiple times the rate of inflation, you do wonder what it is that is keeping inflation as low as it is.

As you age it increases because we fall apart faster :D but it is a crazy big increase. Shall we start a medical insurance company?
Usual frustrations of being a sports team manager. Tennis team so only need 4 players. Been used to struggling with the bare 4 for years and having to beg fill ins almost every week so was pleased this season when we got some new people and the club gave me a team of 6. "We'll have to rotate with 6 so everyone gets to play enough" I said ambitiously. Didn't take long to become 5 (1 dropping out before the first game), and now 4 this week with an injury ("probably can't play in pre-Xmas half"). Always try my best to confirm the Saturday team early in the week but with 2 others also "unavailable" this week as usual my Friday ends up spent desperately trying to find a 4th player from somewhere. Sigh.
At Wimbledon don't they just sub one of the ball girls in 😁

I just took another look at my GP website - they state that they don't open all the appointment slots so that there's always a few for emergencies. I suspect MikeB4's practice is short staffed.
Years ago a doctor in Miramar Wgtn had his sister as practice nurse/ receptionist. She took it on herself to be a guard dog restricting who got to see her brother as she thought he was overworking himself. When he found out she was "retired".
I doubt that Mike would just ring and ask for an appointment without giving any context. Being charitable I can only think it was a mistake to be told 3 weeks.

Must be really hard dealing with so much pain. Cousin has a stash of 'special' C brownies he munches on for his debilitating pain and swears by them.
When it’s really bad Healthline 0800 611 116 should be your first call. Explain the situation to them and they will triage and if they deem fit, will send an ambulance that will decide whether to take you to ED or can help you on the spot. They also have a lot of great practical advice and you can call 24/7. It’s just comforting talking to someone that can help you. Mrs Mike can call on your behalf.
People with chronic conditions are usually fairly knowledgeable about them. I'm sure Mike knows what he needs. I think the best we can do is just be there and be available of course if something does come up that we can help with.
