I am also guessing this is why new microwaves have a clock so feebly lit up that its useless if there is any sun in the room.

Yes, but what if these ‘forced’ manufacturers don't implement it sensibly? For example, I can choose how long my devices should stay awake before going to sleep, or not at all. It's just that the option is required.

Implementing it well is the important part. If I put a game on pause for more than 20(?) minutes, and the PlayStation is therefore not producing any sound for that length of time, then the Panasonic sound bar will turn off, and the Panasonic TV will forget it exists. I then need to go into the TV menu to get sound back again.

I wonder if that one is an hdmi-cec implementation weakness on the PlayStation side.

Getting home from are wedding anniversary break and discovering an odd smell in our home. My wife found the cause when she touched the controller on our Laxyboy recliner sofa. It was very hot and the sofa would recline. We believe we were very close to having a fire.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Whoa. Lucky you didn't come to a burned down house.

Yep, it was a shock alright. I think if we were a day longer it would have been a disaster. Its only two years old so covered by warranty and CGA. Will be contacting Lazyboy this morning.

Had similar with a car auxillary to USB adapter.  It's that sickly sweet smell of capacitors melting down that prompted a frantic search to see where it was coming from.

It was too hot to hold.  Luckily I was waiting in the car while the driver popped in to the shop otherwise there's a reasonable chance we'd have come out to find the car on fire.

That reminds me - I've got a lead acid battery on recondition-charge in the workshop. Back soon...

You have hit the nail on the head for the smell. It wasn't the normal electrical smell.

I have spoken to LazyBoy and someone will visit me today to assess the unit.

It's a weird smell for sure.  Not burning.  Last time I recall that smell was some fluorescent tube holders decided to end-of-life themselves.

The local Lazyboy folks came here and checked what was happening. They believe they have isolated the issue to one ove the two switch sets. They have arranged for they parts and their technician to come and fix it which will be in about a week. I am very impressed with their after sales service.

gzt: If you're signed in with a Google account you can opt out of gambling ads

Thanks. I didn't know you can do that. Gambling ones are also annoying, especially one that starts with "Buckle up, Noo Zealand" in an American accent!

This made me smile, although it remains to be seen whether it'll do any good. I'd reported the ones I'd seen to YouTube but that didn't get rid of them.
