Courier companies that charge more for overnight delivery, and more if Saturday delivery... Then deliver on Monday anyway.

It's Monday and I just received a package with stamps "Overnight" and "Saturday".

I'd bet 80% of these "Overnight delivery/Saturday delivery" packages shipped on Friday are delivered on Monday. A complete waste of money but courier companies will keep charging.

For everyone who still believes in Santa and data privacy.

Doesn't affect me because I'm self-employed?“ Funny joke!

Many areas don’t have Saturday deliveries.

It’s also not guaranteed but best effort. That’s the defence I had the last time I asked about this

They’ll happily take your money however even if it’s RD - which absolutely does not have Saturday or overnight deliveries in many instances.

Nothing you said is different from what I said.

My point stands: they will happily take the money with no guarantee the service can actually be completed as promised.

Are you using pre-paid stickers or ordering online?  They've got no control over your stickers, of course but you'd think that their online or over the counter systems would clarify this.

Tipping Point replacing The Chase before the news.

Tipping Point belongs in the spot that the unemployed watch TV, not in the evening prior to the news coming on.  It's a completely different class to The Chase.  Something about that game infuriates me.  The class of questions says it all.

Never heard of it. It's hard for me to imagine anyone voluntarily watching free to air tv unless participating in a medical study to determine how long it takes to go insane. So, I had to look:

https://9now.nine.com.au/tipping-point/quiz-tuesday-november-26-2024-test-your-skills-todd-woodbridge/ec9db831-d26d-4cc0-ae3e-d69d98e103d2

I scored 50% and it tells me the average is 28%. I was woken by my phone after trying to get an early night so excuses I reckon I'd have a good chance at the Dorothy Dinosaur question normally.

Looks to be only when there is live cricket broadcast and to allow Te Karere to fit in the schedule.  When there is no cricket appears to be The Chase at 17:00 as per what we're used to.

I'm finding the laser-focus on metrics rather than overall performance rather annoying at my workplace right now.

I don't think I have ever been less engaged.

Oddly enough I had an urgent package delivered where it was a day late, got a notification that had been delivered. So checked the door and letterbox (nowhere else it could be, urban house) and there was nothing. Checked the delivery signature and it was illegible so pondered for a few hours how badly I wanted to track it down, then I heard a diesel van outside the garage (where the couriers can park) and knock and drop at the door.

I'm sure someone just keyed in delivered, first thing in the mornign, to get closer to the paid for delivery, then dropped it off late afternoon.

How does this garbage end up in Google's feed. Have heard a few talking about it thinking they're going to get this payment - the amount has varied over the last couple of weeks.

That was shocking.

I noticed yesterday at the GP a notice saying they were using AI for patients notes. Is this not a breach of our privacy as patients?

That was a disturbing video. National laws have a big effect on how much a company can spy.

A worker in Germany is much more protected than in the US.

Note the video is by Proton, who sells privacy products, so they are inclined to use worst case scenarios.

But fundamentally they are correct.

Don’t mix business with pleasure. Don't put your sausage where you make your bacon. Don’t bring your personal life into the office.
