Ram prices. I was going to upgrade a machine to 64GB to see if that helped with something. It was $23+gst for a 16 gig stick of ddr4 on my last order in April, Best I can find now is around $75+gst - not sure I want to risk it on "cheap" aliexpress ram when its that expensive! might just retire one of the seldom used PCs and pinch its ram for the media storage PC.

You think computer RAM is expensive...take a look at the Dodge Ram pricing! Eye-watering for quite an ordinary piece of Americana.

Put One NZ on this then. They send marketing SMS with no option to unsubscribe. And they are not about the service (which would be excluded from unsubscribe option) but purely promotional.

I still get occasional phone spam from them.

And more prone to gremlins than a similarly-equipped Hilux or Navara. Patriotism only goes so far to sell vehicles.

Boomers gaze drooling at their new Amiga 1200s, whistfully recalling a golden age when multitasking meant playing Lemmings while waiting 20 minutes for a floppy disk to load.

With emulator WinUAE and gamepad doing the same thing on your PC, it's not for me.

Smoke alarms doing a synchronised wake-up routine from 4am.

Took them all down after they all had a go at reminding me to check the expiry dates.

Turns out that the 5 year old alarms we installed had manufacturing dates of 2012.

Off to Bunnings today, to get some more. Most of them have terrible reviews.

Hotels that use magnetic strip keycards. It’s totally obsolete technology with a simple replacement.

Booked flights online through a well known NZ based travel agent. I assumed, as most people would, that an itinerary with flight details would be emailed. It wasn't.

Tried to phone them, waited on hold for half an hour, and gave up. I then sent them a grumpy email, and a few hours later they sent the documents. Of course I got the usual patronising "check your spam folder".

Seriously, how broken are their systems if they have to be chased up to send documents that they know are absolutely essential?

Bring back the good old days of going in and getting a nice little wallet with all of your documents and itineraries and some luggage tags etc, along with a nice smile, some advice and a sense of something good coming...

And they still haven't corrected it! It's getting a few laughs online 😁

I'm naming and shaming Bridgestone. Just because I got new tyres a couple of months ago, I'm now on their mailing list. Unsubscribing told me "unsubscribe successful", and then a month later I got another promotional message from them.

Another one, from somewhere else. The unsubscribe link goes to an error page (my emphasis):

e-books: let me count the ways!

A lot I've seen are obviously OCRed from a scan of the paper edition without proof reading or even spell-checking.

Multi-book bundles with the books out of reading order (extra points if you don't know the correct order in advance and get a nasty surprise).

Multi-book bundles which include the 5 preview chapters of the next book in the bundle at the end of each book.

Click and Collect: Rebel Sport - "Will be available for click and collect tomorrow" - 4 days later, still not available

Mitre 10 - "Click and Collect in 1 hour - available at approx. 2pm" - message received at 1.25pm - available to pick up now (and actually available).

Why is Rebel Sport so incredibly poor at both stock control and Click & Collect?
