Correct, however with the checks and balances that standard aviation practices demand for the installation of such items it should never be possible for this type of thing to happen. One person will do the job and another will check/inspect it was done and and one or most likely both people will sign to say they have done their job.

That this happened shows an extreme level of non compliance.

Hence I said you are putting your faith in a lot of different people.

The finger of blame seems to point to the initial Chinese source.

I saw a video that a Chinese regulation require two technicians to service an elevator. To get a certification, a photo must be sent to the regulators showing the technicians standing in front of the elevator's framed certificate.

So what did a Chinese elevator company do? They printed full-sized cardboard cutout of technicians. They issued each technician with several different cut-outs, dressed differently, so as to not not have the same cutout appear to frequently.

The company eventually got caught.

Cantonese expression: "呃得就呃": scam just because you can/ scam whenever you can.

Just last week, a 26 story building was constructed in Hunan in 5 days, and coincidently about the same sized building sank under its own weigh about a story, and listed about 10 degrees. The Chinese media bragged about the first, but the CCP and the great Chinese firewall squashed the former story entirely.

In lighter news.

The Guardian: Baby Reindeer in court: the two words that might have saved Netflix $170m worth of grief

At the start of the year, nobody could have predicted that Baby Reindeer – a British drama from a creator nobody had heard of – would end up being the most significant television programme of our age. And yet, it increasingly looks like that will be the case.

Ever since a small band of online sleuths watched the show, noted that it was billed as “a true story” and attempted to track down the real-life inspiration of one of its characters, Baby Reindeer has gone supernova. In Fiona Harvey, they found a woman who not only matched the physical description of Martha, the character who stalks the lead, but whose social media output strongly resembled the character’s dialogue on the show. Appearing on Piers Morgan’s YouTube channel, Harvey threatened to sue Netflix for defamation and gross negligence.

Yesterday that came to pass. Harvey has filed a US $170m (£133m) lawsuit against Netflix in California, accusing the company of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, gross negligence and violations of her right of publicity.
...
Had someone involved in the production and distribution of the show thought to have added the words “based on” to "a true story", then they would have found themselves with a lot more cover.

it was a thing many decades ago when parts brokers where found to supply fake parts including fake paperwork. even air force one was found to have fake parts in it. there was a huge clamp down on it, no doubt its very tightly controlled these days.

We're not talking fake parts here, just people not doing their job correctly.

It's always been tightly controlled as far as parts tracability goes. Fraud is another thing.

in the context of Counterfeit Titanium being used to make aircraft parts, fake parts, fruad etc is all the same thing.

and no aircraft parts have not always been tightly controlled. that was the problem years ago, they where not controlled. no one was was checking those supply houses supply chain.

It must be a nightmare now with so many airframes being dismantled for spare parts. In my news feed there was a story about a 747-8 originally intended for Saudi  Arabia with only 30hrs on it that was being broken down for parts.

From an imaginary person selling airplane parts in Russia

"This is good place for selling aircraft parts. All parts go in big database, like big borscht pot. Buyers search, find your parts, and say, “Spasibo!”

It is like bazaar for airplane parts, like babushka’s stall. Maybe find rare part, like Matryoshka doll inside another doll!

And listen, comrade, it is biggest marketplace for Aeroflot! You find everything: nuts, bolts, big wings, small screws. Even secret recipe for blini.

So, go forth, my friend! Sell parts, make rubles, and fly high like Soviet cosmonaut!"

If you make counterfeit parts for Airliners and Fly on Planes, it feels like a pretty self defeating benefit.

Wonder if Boeing will be forced to actually fix things, if any of its executives or major shareholders are involved in an air crash with a defective plane.

Reading a Sunbeam toastie maker manual, which includes a pile of recipes.  The first recipe has the ingredients and then:

1. Preheat unit. Spread butter over bread.
2. Place 2 pieces of bread in unit, buttered side down. Evenly divide ingredients between the two pieces of bread. Season. Top with remaining bread buttered side up.
3. Close the lid. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Serve.

The second recipe has the ingredients and then:

Serve.

Serve.

I wonder what the 27th recipe will end with?

I also wonder how many people got burnt while working through a hot unit.

Exactly my thought. A lot of burnt knuckles. You make it on a board then transfer to the unit.
