If you are handy with the likes of ESP8266 then you should do what the clever Aussie guy on YT did. Get a cheap security camera like a Tapo C310 that recognises and captures events such as "animal seen". Work out the patrol patterns of the cat(s) then set up garden hose with motion trigger to give them a blast of water.

Yeah I was thinking about some project along those lines. Even something in the garage to alert me to a cat trapped in there.

This guy has done many cat bothering machines and is pretty funny

The glow in the dark LED lightbulbs in my bedroom.

Yes, I know thats the whole point of them, but mine maintain a faint glow when they are switched off.

Not enough to light the room, just 4 softly glowing spots on the ceiling.

Spending far too many hours staring up at them wondering why they do that.

Capacitive coupling across the switch and possibly switch wires that allow a few microamps to pass.

Is that dangerous? Should I get an electrician?

No. It is normal for LEDs.

With incandescent bulbs the current was too tiny to matter, but modern LEDs are efficient enough that even microamps of current or stray capacitance between the lamp wiring and the mains can cause a faint glow.

Slightly off subject, touch lamps must constantly sense your finger, so there’s always a very small standby current flowing through the circuit. You shouldn't feel any tingling when you touch a touch lamp.

So some touch lamp will dimly glow, in particular for low wattage bulbs, like 2 watts.

Finding that my car has been sideswiped overnight and the person who did it has scuttled off without leaving a note. It's an older car so probably not worth repairing but I will have it checked out to see if there is any structural damage.

Don’t suppose you or your neighbours have a security camera that might have recorded it?

Unfortunately not. Thanks for the suggestion.

Volkswagen Audi Group discontinuing one-time-use bolts that I require to perform maintenance on my car. Surely there was a better way to design and build a 21st century car. I guess I'm expected to send it to the wreckers now and head down to the Audi dealership and purchase an even more disposable and unmaintainable 2025/6 vehicle.

Open source software that's just chucked up on GitHub with absolutely zero documentation of how to build the thing.

Expect that for aircraft but not cars! What are they used for?

Send a followup that says if I do not hear from you by xx/xx/xxxx I will assume you are not coming and book/plan accordingly.

I met up with one of them in person a couple of days after I made that post. "Are you coming to my event?" "Yes, of course I am!"

My employer's inability to adequately sell/communicate the benefits of their decision to bring everyone back into the office three days a week from next year with Monday or Friday being compulsory.
This, despite the company being filled with sales and marketing professionals.

With better communication, the acceptance levels would have been far higher - instead, there's rabid discontent just before Christmas.

At the end of the day, we all work for the company and very, very few of us have a formal agreement to WFH, despite doing so almost permanently.
We'll all have to suck it up and get on with what we were hired to do, but don't try to tell us that it's for our own benefit.

My wife and I were out enjoying our morning walk when we passed a house that was having the front fence replaced. There was a large sheet of steel reinforcing mesh where a section of the fence was missing.

As we walked past a large angry German Sheperd dog jumped at the mesh with teeth bared. Rather frightening and pretty sure it would scare the hell out of a passing child or elderly person.

PSA: The Wait Zone adjacent to the domestic terminal at Auckland Airport is now a meager nine spaces. It was more than half full when I visited, very much off-peak.

They claim to have three wait zones -- #1 has more than 40 spaces, #2 more than 30 and #3 more than 30.
