Dairusire:

Bought a 'new' pillow from Costco. Looked just like what I wanted.

I live in the Hawkes bay.

Get all the way home later that day. Pillow has obviously been used extensively. Pilling on the cover, other peoples hair in the actual pillow itself. Smells of other people.

It was packed in the plastic, closed up on the shelves. Clearly a returned item that's been thrown back up.
Just awesome.

OMG I feel sick.

Yeah can't say I'm overly enthused about it. Have emailed Costco to see what they'll do about the issue.

Sharesies jumping on the "your year in..." bandwagon.

Trying to trumpet that "you did this that and the other".

But only really blowing their own trumpet about overall numbers since they don't really track individual stats to any great degree (nor should they) like Strava or Spotify do.

Warehouse $10 wired earbuds with volume control.

"Won" at work secret Santa. Box maybe 130x60x15. Top fully glued shut. Bottom flap open at the sides but also glued shut.

Cut one side of bottom flap with scissors.

Find that the volume control and all the cable is squashed into the bottom 5mm of the box by the cardboard former holding the buds and I've just cut the cable.

Wasted much more time than the value of the buds arguing with 3 levels of customer service that the packaging isn't fit for purpose, with no joy.

My support ticket last year: The certificate on server XYZ has expired. Please renew it and set up a reminder to make sure this doesn't happen again next year.

Guess what happened again today.

Contractors at work (government department) moaning about being stood down for four weeks over the holiday period.

(I know what your daily/hourly rates are...suck it up buttercup.)

If you don't have school age children, the absolute worst time to have holidays is January: everything is crowded and even more expensive than usual. For the child-free crowd, the best time to have summer holidays is February - the weather's still hot, but the crowds have gone and prices are less unreasonable.

A fortnight is fine, but the long compulsory "shutdown" break is IMO a sign of management that is too weak to impose proper control of Annual Leave balances and have the necessary difficult conversations with the individuals with large amounts of leave owing.

Not sure how that relates to my original bleat.  Contractors don't get A/L.  The forced stand-down is absolutely justified given the slowing of projects over that period, and the tax-payer should be delighted that government agencies are attempting to be frugal.

People don't seem to know what "RSVP" means any more. I sent out invitations to half a dozen people almost six weeks ago and so far none of them have bothered to respond. I fully expect all of them to just turn up on the day without a care in the world.

I'd followed up with all but one of the guests directly. The remaining one finally RSVPd today, 61 days after I sent out the invitation. At least I have her phone number now.

What is the age demographic of the invitees? Such social etiquette norms as invitations, RSVPs and even writing a letter correctly are no longer taught and dying out.

This particular one will be in her late 60s/early 70s.

It does seem to be a fairly common problem now though. I found a Reddit post earlier where someone sent out invitations and got a verbal "can't make it", followed by a formal "yes" RSVP a few weeks later (well after the deadline, and only a couple of days before the event). And then they didn't turn up.

The slowing down of projects over that period is caused by ... people not being at work, because ... they're forced to stand down, because ... projects slow down then.

Admittedly, some parts of some projects will depend on people with school age children, who will want to take A/L over that period. However, the proportion of parents-of-school-kids in the workforce is decreasing. Personally, I found that period to be a great time to make progress without interruptions and distractions.

Asked a vendor about replacement power supplies (one dead, one lost), they wanted RMA for the whole kit.
I found that the unit was faulty anyway, so went along with the RMA

Unit was supplied to me for returning to the vendor without the PSU

Vendor was advised no PSU will be forthcoming.

Vendor gets my return, then asks about the missing PSU that I wanted to order and was happy to pay for from the beginning.

Tinsel on handrails. Stairs are the most common place I’ve seen this.

Eva888:

I topped up Wise in the usual way by sending money to my Wise account from my bank. I get the following response.

You sent this money to us before setting up a transfer in your Wise Account, so we didn’t know where to send it, we’ve added it to your account, and it’s ready to use. Next time, please set up a transfer first. This tells us what you want us to do with your money and helps avoid any delays or refunds.

What are they on about? I don’t want to transfer the money anywhere. I want it in my account to spend.

Wonder which account number you used. My NZD wallet has a 02-1291-xxxxxxx-000 number. However when I set up transfers it always tells me to put it in an 04-2021-xxxxxxx-79 account.

My read of this is that putting money into the 02-1291 account goes direct to my NZD wallet and doesn't trigger the response (which is what I have observed). The 00 prefix suggests that perhaps the bank/branch/account is unique to me but don't quote me on this.

However putting money into the 04-2021 account apparently should only should be done after establishing a transfer. Maybe why they've told you not to do that. I presume the 04-2021 is possibly not 'your' account number but just a shared account they use to aggreate transfers from mutliple customers, which is then reallocated on their end to the correct currency account.

I suggest checking your NZD wallet and making sure you have the correct bank account number.
