Buying an item on a Christmas wishlist.

Vendor 1: Lists five in stock. I order one, then the next day they tell me that they're out of stock.

Vendors 2 through 5: None in stock.

Vendor 6: Lists one in stock. I order it. A couple of days later I'm told that my order is shipping today via CourierPost. AKL->WHK is usually overnight, but after three days nothing has turned up. I contact the vendor and ask for a tracking number. "I'm so sorry but it didn't ship like it was supposed to. Our system says we have one in stock but we can't find it."

At this point I'm giving up and she'll be getting a gift voucher and a story.

I went to a .com website and chose New Zealand. The prices all went up, presumably changing from USD to NZD (of course, they only say "$"). Ordered something. Price on bank statement is ~15% higher, because the "$" are actually AUD.

Taking my newly graduated son and the family out for a celebratory late lunch/early dinner at the waterfront.

One drink each, one very small meal each and it was $250.00

My meal was Fish and Chips. I had 13 fries and a small piece of (admittedly very nice) battered fish. It was $32.00.

They will say things like "Oh, our stock levels update overnight" like that is an acceptable thing this side of dialup being a thing.

I've struck retailers that only place orders late in the day so they never have a chance when the wholesalers are low stock. The numbers they quote are often warehouse totals.

I suspect it was a plain error: it seemed to me to be the sort of item where they might sell two in a month rather than five a day.

The industry that surrounds memorable occasions, such as a University graduation.

  • Frames - K Mart quality frames for $50-65 a pop for the certificates (at K Mart they're $10)
  • Photos - a single photo of a student being handed their degree by the chancellor/vice chancellor: $19.95 for a single print, or $39.95 for a digital download.
  • Bears and Kiwis (small plush toys in university robes holding a small degree) - $50
  • Flowers, portraits, commemorative balloons, you name it...$$$

Does my head in (he says while he sits in his Metallica concert tour shirt from Eden Park that cost $60)

Just in time for everyone to go on their summer holidays, our employer has released new guidelines for managers who have staff with company vehicles.

Effectively, there will likely be a lot of disciplinary proceedings in the New Year if these guidelines are not shared with the drivers in advance.

Thankfully, I a) am acutely aware that I drive a branded vehicle and am GPS tracked/Speed monitored and b) have a good manager who has given me a heads-up.

They should have released an update weeks ago, to ensure compliance from the drivers, but as with everything, our internal policy makers seem to be incapable of delivering news effectively.

So years of effort by Police and NZTA require your manager's endorsement? Reminds me of the council ceo who finally got his GPS log examined who dismissed it all as just while overtaking.

Slack has, without asking, enable the Slackbot
  • It cannot be muted
  • It ignores "How to notify you": "Mentions and direct messages"
According to Slack help, only an admin can disable

Manage access to AU features in Slack

I left them feedback telling them I hate the slackbot, and allow me to mute it.

kingdragonfly: Manage access to AU features in Slack

Why do we have "AU" features on Slack? Why not NZ features?

🤪

Something about not beach-launching your boat over the holidays?
