The hotel we are staying at has beautiful floor to ceiling windows along an entire wall. Fantastic views and lights, except at night you need to roll down 5 huge blinds by hand and the chains are short so arms in the air pulling in tight knobbly chains. Now it’s morning and they all need to go up again. There are big gaps of light in between each blind and the room is full of light so have been awake since 5am. It needs drapes to pull across. There are big entire apartment has this same issue. Totally impractical.

Pro Tip: Stay in budget hotels; they don't have floor to ceiling windows. If they have windows at all.

I've spent the last decade having three weeks in four in motel/hotels. It's interesting the small things that you appreciate. Probably not for an annoys thread, but motels in a U shape with a concrete parking centre really needs good sound proofing. Quiet fridges, electronics with lights etc etc.

I stayed in one hotel recently that had some decorative lighting behind the head board. Took me ten minutes to find the light switch for it. Which was beside the entrance door. Not the bed.

The hotel has lights that require time and patience to turn on an off. You turn on one set of 8, another set closes, you turn off that, the other turns on again. Getting both lots to turn off is a mission. The switches wobble on and off. None of us have figured them out yet so we either sit and burn our eyeballs or by luck if both sets go off we sit by the light of the Tv. The single wall light only comes on with another set of six ceiling down lights.

The fancy pole lamp next to the Tv to give ambience, has immovable lamps pointing East and West with strong lights that hit the other wall of the room, shining across the Tv, not downwards, so unusable unless you need to interrogate a suspect.

There was no can opener in the fully equipped kitchen. When I asked reception could we have one as it was missing, she responded condescendingly they don’t have one because nobody uses them anymore. This nobody was craving beetroot.

There is also no microwave. Maybe they assume no one uses them anymore either and we can easily heat food with their eternal million watt burning lights.

On the plus side, it has one huge electric window from Back to the Future with 12 mil glass that opens wide to let in fresh air. This Kiwi villager has never seen the like before. Used once out of curiosity but took too long, you could fall asleep waiting. Needed speeding up x3.

Its the day after the day after the day after Boxing Day and I'm sitting under a blanket to try to keep warm.

Turn the fan off then? 😁

(I'm actually astounded that you're cold: I'm in shorts and a singlet!)

That sounds like the start of getting sick. Mine began this way. Put on socks and wrap something around your neck, scarf makes you feel instantly warm.

Getting the baubles back into their box was a mission. And then I knocked the box over and they all came tumbling out again.

That reminds me, I need to contact Amazon because I have a package that's simultaneously "arriving today" but "not yet shipped".

Edit: Well this is one for the Whiskey thread, because I contacted Amazon and got "Sorry for the inconvenience. Would you like me to cancel the order?" No, I would like you to ship the order!

Seventeen days later, it has finally shipped.
