Behodar:

I just had one a few minutes ago from "Hurly Consulting". Probably a scam. They didn't leave a message.

I seem to have (accidentally enabled) a feature on iPhone where if a call comes through that is unknown it goes direct to a screening voice prompt that asks them to say something like name and reason for the call. The phone then pops up a message that such and such are calling about such and sunch so I can ignore it or answer. If I ignore it goes to voice mail which is saved but also transcribed into text.

Is that something new?

Just got another unidentified caller. The number is 04-805-0642 (via Spark), and a reverse lookup on the Web implies it's from Foundation Life Insurance. Never heard of them before.

Foundation Life is a combined investment and life insurance scheme that was popular several decades ago (originally known as Government Life) when it was common practice for parents to set up these schemes for their children. They are currently in the process of winding up the scheme in favour of providing cash payouts and replacement life insurance policies, so they will be contacting a lot of clients in the last few weeks.

Daughter ordered an item from PBTech that was to arrive before Christmas, but it didn't.

Rang them this morning to find out when we could expect delivery and they tell us it won't be until February. Supplier issues.

They still have it on their website with shipping now from 19th Jan and local shop pickup on 23rd.

Daughter is getting rather annoyed.

I get emails with the status of my orders from PB Tech. I currently have something on order that's out of stock and get a weekly email apologising and an ETA. Do you not get those emails? It's quite a good feature compared with other on-line stores.

Correction: It actually shipped yesterday but they didn't bother to tell me, despite saying "We will send you another follow up email once your order has been dispatched." The package turned up today.

I just got the shipping notification, a week after delivery.

Is it RAM by chance? That particular product has been in short supply due to market cornering and demand from AI data centres.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

New World ads on YouTube with "South Island only". There's no Skip button. Nobody's going to head to the south island to buy groceries so why make us sit through the ads? (That is, why not make them skippable when they don't apply to a large number of people?)

I'm at risk of losing my sh*t if another person in the office says the word 'staycation' again.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

What annoys me are the Donation stalls, Fundraisers, beggars etc whom are at the entrance to a supermarket every-time you go.  I just want to go shopping in peace without being made to feel guilty for say no to these scabs...   The only ones I support are the sausage sizzles at Bunnings on the weekends.

Forest & Bird, or someone similar were setup in the foyer at the Meadowbank Woolworths the other day. It's like running a gauntlet. Sadly many of the charity and conservation groups are politically partisan these days - a reason I walk past them.

I don't mind the homeless at the supermarket. They are generally quiet sign holders and they know if they are active they will be escorted off the premises. The comission charity collectors on the other hand really annoy me. It's not uncommon to be pitched on entry and exit. Easy process improvement for them - choose one - entry or exit!
