Being a European car I am surprised the cost of the job is is only $1,200. How on earth did those seals fail in only 5 years? this is not Australia with it 40+ degree heat. Is you car garaged or carport?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Quite correct. Yes, it's garaged and has less than 50K on the clock. Their argument that they are high touch areas made me laugh out loud.

The myth that expensive German cars = premium quality and premium service has been dead for a long time. It’s one of the reasons the German automotive industry is falling apart.

I had a 96 Corolla with 350,000+ km on the clock that lived outside.  Door seals were still perfectly good when I replaced the car a couple of years ago.

High touch or not, we have the technology for door seals that last for decades.

Good grief. So BMW say their cars are not designed to be touched.

I can't agree with this sentiment. There was at least when I bought this vehicle a gulf between the quality and features of this compared to the cheaper versions in the Japanese cars (and Teslas) I considered in the same segment.

In Ev's right now, I'd say the gap is much less than the price would indicate.

The loaner BMW is incredible despite being an entry level tiny little thing, I am very impressed.

Overall the cabin experiences of modern european cars are still comfortably ahead of their competitors in my experience.

Of the European brands I feel BMW have best reliability and general build quality. The VW Group in my experience are bothersome and Mercedes are horrible. And as for Stellantis Group the sooner they depart this planet the better for the European reputation.

My main gripe with European brands is their love affair with DSG on normal vehicles. This malady has spread to some Korean and Chinese brands. DSG for normal street cars ruins the driving experience and frankly are dangerous in some circumstances.

Must be true, try touching one and see how upset the owner gets.

Neighbours across the road have gone from a Mazda CX5 to a BMW X1.

Rather than making the key fob that opened or started the car the prime key for that session they notice some strange things happening when they both have keys on them. Dealer's answer is "why have both present, leave one at home". He's probably too polite to ask why they didn’t buy 2 cars.

Ordered a specific beef cut online. First order from this supplier, because the usual one doesn't have this cut (I also ordered different cuts from the usual one because they were still cheaper for the cuts they had in common).

Usually beef comes in 24 hours, still packed with ice around it.

This one was also sent as 24 hours. But the courier company took its sweet time, taking 52 hours (two days and four hours) to delivery it. It was put in the van at 8AM and delivered at 5PM, despite the large PERISHABLE stickers all around it. The ice packs were still cold but no ice anymore. Still wrapped in wool bag though, so it was cool, not cold.

Very unhappy with New Zealand Couriers. I let the supplier know and I am waiting for their comments.

Sometimes battery packs fail because of one inexpensive cell. I wonder if anyone here knows how to rehabilitate it? Could be a handy emergency spare if so.

BMW is comfortably better value than Audi and Mercedes, though as a drivers car the sporty mercs have the best handling of any euro sports car I've driven, they are quite something. Pity their infotainment systems are so far behind and are so much more expensive.  As a package a BMW is very very hard to beat if you want European.

Seed raising mix with lots of chunky bits in it.

Did you use seed raising mix bag as a barf bag ? Any sweetcorn or diced carrots?

😆
