MikeB4:

For generation upon generation spanning a century or two and into a new millennium. Travelling across continents, wide oceans and into the darkness of space. Mankind has prospered and developed into the technology epoch. Endured wars, plagues, famine and the Fiat Multipla. So why by the gods of Asgard did we feel the need to glue the starting point of the humble but vitally useful roll of toilet paper? Why?

Good grief Mike, you complained about the same thing a scant ten years ago. We heard you the first time.

😁

You can't find a French-style baguette in Wellington anymore. Everywhere they only have those awful sourdough.

...and every burger is made with a bl**dy brioche bun.

Which is sweet! I don’t want my hamburger with sugar.

Follow-up from the [Smile] thread.

It seems New Zealand moved from French-style baguettes - crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside - made of water, salt and yeast, to sourdough baguettes.

What a waste. Sourdough has a chewy crust outside, it's dense and dry inside. The flavour impacts anything you put in it. Can't even eat a good jamon or prosciutto with cheese without the sourdough screaming "I'm here. Taste how awfully sour I am. Who cares about the other ingredients on your sandwich?"

The French are very touchy about this sort of misappropriation. I would have thought anyone advertising a "baguette" made from sourdough would be receiving a visit from the likes of Alain Mafart and Dominique Prieur.

Doing stupid stuff for no apparent reason. I was just buying some lunch and I had trouble swiping my card in the very shallow slot. After a few attempts I finally got it to read, at which point I immediately pressed the Cancel Transaction button. Why?!

My deepest and solemn apologies. I shall delete my post and exile myself for forty days and forty nights.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Just change to Purex extra long rolls. They have a starter tab and just a trace of glue.

I told IT that one of our internal servers is broken. Server details, repro steps, exact error message, what else I've tried.

I got a page and a half of AI slop back, none of which is relevant. Server is still broken.

Edit: A different person looked at the ticket and resolved it.

Ah right you mean the starting point for the user not the starting point of winding for the manufacturer.

Glue varies by manufacturer ime. I have two in my cupboard today. Purex Mega Long, has glue and a shorter and thinner part to pull. That one can be fiddly and rippy.

Pam's Threeply Long roll, despite the name is a 'lux' type, has glue but has a longer lead area to pull and is typically easier and more reliable to pull start.

It's a great point Mike I'd suggest mailing your preferred brand or trying a few different brands. I imagine breaking into a new packet is a significant pain as well. Earthwise has a paper packet dead easy to get into. I recall the actual Earthwise rolls might be a major pain to start but I don't have any of those in the cupboard to confirm - might be wrong about the rolls.

The fact that This sort of thing continues to happen and that companies like Parking Enforcement Services are even getting contracted by retailers and retail centre owners.

They're daylight robbers and thugs dressed in suits.

Reading the article, why does Wilsons "enforce" a drive-through?  You can't park in it as the Maccas staff will move you on well before Wilsons gets wind of it.

It's also amusing to note the Upper Hutt mall park has maybe half a dozen cars at most at any given time now they've moved to an enforcement company instead of free parking.  Mostly it is penalising those who actually need a close, easy access park (elderly, disabled, parents etc).

Although cocoa prices seem to be heading back down, but not in time for any immediate price drops...

This leads to another annoyance. When oil prices go up, petrol on the pumps gets more expensive immediately. When oil prices go down, there are "reasons why prices can't go down, the supply chain is complicated, the oil is already in the pump" and all sort of mental exercises to keep it at that level.

It's often indicative of cartel behaviour when prices are quick to rise but slow to fall.

This happened to some people I know up at the highbury mall in birkenhead. Once was driving thru it to get to maccas for breakfast and the other camera capture was parking at the end of the day to do something else. Another was done just for driving thru it twice in one day.

Now they just do not go to that dire mall. Own goal for these places when their broken systems do this and they make it work to argue with something they have no proof over. If they say I was parked there for 4 hours then I expect nothing less than a 4 hour video of my car parked in a place. If you can't provide that then GTFO.

They'll probably mis-blame cycleways and removal of parking spaces for their loss of business.

A few years ago the local council decided to put a couple of wooden "patios" in the street. Each was I think three carparks wide, and turned those spaces into seating areas for the public. One was right outside a cafe, and the cafe owners complained that it would drive away customers because they wouldn't be able to park right outside.

A couple of years ago the council announced that it was going to move all the structures so as to not unfairly (dis)advantage particular businesses. The same one that had complained about it going in was now complaining that the extra customer seating was going away.

Not sleeping well. Mrs Handle is going through some really tough times at work and it's come to a head yesterday. It'll be for the best but it's not fun times at the moment.

Hospitality vendors just like to complain. As a user of their services I don't give a crap if the don't survive, another will crop up to replace them.
