My earlier post regarding toilet paper was partly worded in jest I did not realize it would cause an issue. However there is a seriousness within my most. To the able bodied it may seem trivial but to the disabled it is just one more hurdle that has to be coped with. I like many that have my conditions hand mobility can be very limited. For example I have very restricted use of my left hand and my right hand limited with progressive loss of fine finger skills.

I ask folks the next time you try to start one of those glued rolls do it one handed and using only thumb and one finger. I may have repeated my complaint but it was out of frustration. This to me seem a pointless move by the manufacturer that just adds more barriers for the disabled.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

100% agree. Hopefully your preferred brand will take some action after a call on their 0800, and if not then an advocacy organisation or the disability commissioner may need to take it forward

In my experience manufacturers are constantly looking for ways to eliminate costs from their processes. That gluing will be a cost but it's still there so there must be a reason they are persisting with it. Maybe if they don't the rolls unravel before getting to the final step in the manufacturing process.

It's bothersome for able handed people too. It's also annoying when a two-ply roll separates between the plies instead of between the combined layers. I wonder if there's a brand amongst all of them that doesn't have the end glued?

I switched from Purex to Sorbent a while ago solely because it's easier to get into. It's still not great though.

The roll on the right is a Purex Mega 2 ply 410 sheet which has ~1cm tab and the end is easily lifted. The adhesive may be no more than water and pressure.

The roll on the left is an example of toilet paper origami that is just held by being wetted. Frankly it doesn’t hold together well at all 😁

Just as I’m nodding off to sleep I hear this barely audible repeating beep beep beep …beep beep beep

When I say barely audible, I have excellent hearing sensitivity even though I have tinnitus.  This beep was wayyy under the level of the tinnitus. I initially picked it up more as a sensation in my ears than anything.

So I’m walking around the room trying to find it and as anyone would know, high pitched sounds can be hard to get a direction on.  At one point I even stood on my bed wondering if it was in the ceiling and I’m trying to think back if I’d left a head torch up there or something.

I checked and turned off the phone charger as the beep was so faint it almost sounded like it could be a failing electronic component, nope not that.  My wife is going mad as this point as she can’t hear it and I’m going through all the drawers and cupboards trying to find anything that might make a beep. I even went outside in case it was an alarm down the road. Each time I move to a different spot I have to stand there and wait for my ears to pick it up again, wait for my wife to stop complaining and after a while decide no, not there …

Eventually I remembered I could tilt my heard slightly to better trace sounds then found it was the stupid smoke detector above me.  When I had earlier stood up on my bed, because the sound was so slight and focused it reduced considerably at that height.

I have always marvelled at the way people with disabilities manage daily life, usually without complaining. They just seem to get on with life to the best of their ability.

I had an operation for trigger finger on my right thumb two weeks ago and get the stitches out tomorrow morning.

Having to use my left hand for simple everyday things has reinforced by admiration for the way people with disabilities cope.

We purchased a large pack of toilet paper rolls recently and upon opening the rolls did not have any starter flap. The paper had enough adhesive to survive the rapture. We had to give it away and purchase new. Very annoying.

That reminds me. I'm a light sleeper and something woke me at about 2am. It sounded a bit like a cat lapping up some water. It stopped a couple of seconds after I noticed it, and I lay there perfectly still, then around ten minutes later I heard it again. It stopped after a few seconds.

I got up and had a little look around the house but couldn't find anything. Certainly no sign of a cat! If it had gone on for long enough I probably could have pinpointed it, but no chance when it was just a couple of short bursts.

It didn't sound like a mouse but I'll keep an eye open for droppings. Or maybe it was something on the roof (birds can make an absolute racket up there, so some other sort of creature might make some odd noises).

if its any help the pams 3 ply toilet paper has a large flap and just enough paste to hold it and a thumb and finger can easily remove it.

Not sleeping well. Mrs Handle is going through some really tough times at work and it's come to a head yesterday. It'll be for the best but it's not fun times at the moment.

That's never fun.

Something was annoying me and I came here to have a moan.
Then I got distracted with everyone else's issues.

I can't remember what was annoying me now.

That's really annoying.

A few drops of
- dew falling off a roof point outside hitting concrete
- toilet cistern overflow hitting concrete
- hot water expansion / valve
- a small run from pipe into a drain or similar
anyway don't drive yourself nuts looking for it and good luck ; ).

It sounded close, and none of the pipes are near the bedroom (no ensuite). It didn't sound like water hitting concrete.

Hopefully I won't hear it again!
