I’m finding YouTube infuriating lately. Am bombarded with rubbish AI generated content among the few politics subs I enjoy. All the 'secrets' no one will tell you and 'watch this before it’s deleted,' crap is becoming very irritating and there’s no way I can fathom to stop the content turning up. There’s also constant fake Piers Morgan videos after I watched one legit interview. It’s getting to the point that you tube has become unwatchable. Wish there was a way to erase all the suggestions and start over instead of having to scroll through the trash.

I very much regret clicking on a few AI comedy videos and AI music vids. Youtube music videos (matched to what I like) used to be great, now my content list is full of AI slop!

Not really viable. As soon as you login again the suggestions will come back. Data is stored on the server side, not only on the client side.

You can watch YouTube videos without having an account at all.

You can. But if you are logged in anywhere else on Google there's a strong push to keep logged in while on YouTube. I am giving a way to prevent history being collected and to clean up previous data.

Exactly what I’ve been doing, purposely watching without being signed in and getting nagged to sign in each time I open the App. I’ve cleared the cache via the TV app but magically, it all appears again. YT is very cunning it only gives me a line of suggestions and a line of shorts when not signed in to try to force you to sign in.

What a horrid world we now live in where you constantly doubt what you see to the extent that not watching at all must become the default.

Be thankful you don't live in the US, where T-Mobile is now using AI to manipulate phone calls (advertised in the "benefits" section of the website).

Yeah, I played one track by banned vinyl and now its half my recommendations with various AI songs along the same lines as the first one with different AI fake artists on them. One was funnyish. Endless stream of them is not. Its also affected my youtube music feed. Ugh.

Amen. I find sticking and subbing to quality channels helps. I prefer ones with human narrators who appear on screen from time to time.

I also use a downloader for extra long videos that take a few sittings to get through. Then I can watch and re-watch at my leisure.

Still doesn't deal with sponsors but I have a fast forward button for that.

But the algorithm is quick to pounce. I watched one video along the lines of 'bloody immigrants ruining my town' and immediately got suggestions for tommy robinson and other right wing cr*p.

It's not just YouTube, ensh!ttification is affecting just about anything from Big Tech. Cory Doctorow, who coined the term to begin with, has some advice on countering it.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Annoyance of the day for me: My continuing saga of "old man's elbows".

I've been suffering on and off from "tennis elbow" or lateral epicondylitis in both arms for about 2 months now.

It flared up particularly badly a few weeks ago and I've been seeing a physio. The treatment seems worse than the malady at this stage. The pain is excruciating.

It's frankly making me miserable and I don't want to keep pumping myself full of painkillers.

I'm possibly telling you something you already know (if so, apologies) but you realise that if you go through your viewing history and remove the cr@p that you regret viewing, similar content appearing as recommendations will be *vastly* reduced, right?

The deluge of advertising from some companies. One emailed me about an offer, valid for a week. Three days later (i.e. less than halfway through the validity period), another email telling me in all capitals that it's the "final days" for that offer.

THey don't make music like they used to.  I think mine was a decade older than I am.

Not really annoys me, just makes me feel really sad.

ALS - Lou Gerigs Disease.

One of the most dispicable diseases, a truly awful thing to suffer from.

I see it claimed Eric Dane (of Greys Anatomy Fame) today.

Spotify calculated my listening age as 50 years higher than my actual age. The model must be sparse...
