Annoyance of the day for me: My continuing saga of "old man's elbows".

I've been suffering on and off from "tennis elbow" or lateral epicondylitis in both arms for about 2 months now.

It flared up particularly badly a few weeks ago and I've been seeing a physio. The treatment seems worse than the malady at this stage. The pain is excruciating.

It's frankly making me miserable and I don't want to keep pumping myself full of painkillers.

Have you already had your vitamin D3 levels checked?

Probably unnecessary at this time of year in NZ. Despite being two months past the summer solstice, the UV index still peaked at 10 here today. Unless you're a mole person.

Especially if you avoid UV radiation and, for example, work in a hospital all day. I know a doctor who was quite surprised when he had his levels checked. There are so many people out there now who don't even know it... until it hurts. A check-up won't do any harm.

I just went to mow the front verge only to find that the neighbour's parked on top of it. This is despite asking them on more than one occasion to not park there, as it also blocks visibility and I've had a near miss when trying to get out of my own driveway. It's always met with a "sorry, I understand and won't do it again" yet they keep parking there.

Maybe it's time for a couple of large 'decorative' rocks placed next to the gutter?

It's gone now. This time it was parked two wheels on, two off, and I'm not sure whether it obstructs visibility in that case. If it happens again, and definitely blocks visibility, then I'll report it.

Too aggressive. Just crawl up to them on all fours with tears streaming down your face and beg them, BEG THEM!, for the love of Terminus, the god of boundaries, Priapus, protector of gardens, Gaia, goddess of the earth, Janus, god of doorways, and Nemesis, goddess of divine retribution, to please please PLEASE!!! not desecrate this precious patch of green and beautiful living things!!! They will either stare in astonishment, weep with shame, or back away slowly with an anxious expression. All should work.

2026 Grrr and it’s only February. We have been slapped around and keep turning the other cheek, but when it spreads to your kids, Whoa.

Kids husband has to have super serious open heart surgery with survival deemed a gift from above. The same day they get notice the building they live in has sold and notice to vacate. Dealing with more floods of tears.

Cherry on top time. Poor kid calls last night that the washing machine has broken down, three days before surgery. Enter Wise…shitty exchange rate, but thank goodness they didn’t delay the transfer to yet again check if I was money laundering.

The other offspring dropped tools and flying over. If SHTF we very likely may need to fly over at short notice. Sigh, this too will pass.

Odd timing. I've changed jobs. The previous decade my job involved a lot of travel and walking around with about an hour a day of laptop. New job, 40 hours at laptop and my right elbow is on fire. Oddly not whilst working (noticed on Saturday) but disgusting. I've had this in the past and have been really careful this time around to be super ergonomic with the setup but I don't that it's a coincidence four weeks into the new role.

I should point out I'm not working on the laptop itself. Ergonomic keyboard, chair screens etc, though I am still waiting on a new desk to arrive.

If it requires blood tests, then no. It's not going to happen. I am acutely needle phobic.
I spend a fair mount of time outdoors, with full exposure to the sun and can't imagine that Vit D deficiency is an issue - my cancer surgeon would also probably agree.

Really sorry to hear that. It never rains but it pours, hey? I hope your family's luck changes soon. Best wishes.

I’ve been researching DMSO for arthritic pain on Aus Amazon. Reading all the reviews and came across a few that said it totally helped their bursitis and elbows. Might be worth a try for yours. I plan to buy some and will report back if it works. Also buying a book discussing its uses. It’s meant to help inflammation. I plan to use it along with magnesium cream, that can also help.
Some of the reviews were quite compelling. Pain sucks and I have it on thumb and index finger, right hand of course.

Having just got back from another painful session with the physio, it appears that things are getting better (relatively speaking) and either my tolerance to torture is getting better or the pain is lessening and the injury is healing.
I cannot wait to be able to get back on my mountain bike and inure myself in some other new way.

@eva888  - I am so sorry to hear of the compounding of your issues and annoyances. I know what it's like and all I can offer is empathy. I have no further wisdom to impart, as I am largely out of wisdom. And my elbows hurt. Makes me less inclined to think clearly.
