That so many new motor vehicles have dopey dual clutch systems. They are OK on a track or motorways but terrible on the roads around Aotearoa. My wife who does our driving hates dual clutches with a passion.

Do you mean DSG transmissions? I've never driven one but hear lots of anecdotes about them not being long-term reliable.

My son had a VW with a DSG box that died. Simple mechatronic replacement, ended up costing over $8k for a $4k car.

Ah the joys of VAG ownership. Plasticine water pumps are just the beginning. I do find it hilarious that people still claim Euros are premium cars. That ship sailed a long time ago.

VAG-owned Skoda still appears to have its act together. Especially if they're good enough for the NZ Police.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Meriton emailing me to say 'it's been a while, keen on a getaway'.

I checked out 3 days ago :)

It's not a getaway if you never leave.

… or if you check out but can never leave.

Follow-up from the [Smile] thread.

It seems New Zealand moved from French-style baguettes - crispy outside, soft and fluffy inside - made of water, salt and yeast, to sourdough baguettes.

What a waste. Sourdough has a chewy crust outside, it's dense and dry inside. The flavour impacts anything you put in it. Can't even eat a good jamon or prosciutto with cheese without the sourdough screaming "I'm here. Taste how awfully sour I am. Who cares about the other ingredients on your sandwich?"

You can't find a French-style baguette in Wellington anymore. Everywhere they only have those awful sourdough.

I just stumbled upon this and was reminded of your post :)

Another one for youtube. Have watched a couple of funny AI music videos on the phone or at work, and now it thinks that its fine to put them into the mixes when I put it on the TV.

Really need to sort out my second channel for just watching and playing music on but all my subs are on the main one.

Dual Clutch Transmissions are very common on Chinese vehicles.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

When you have made plans and have spent the last year going through with them just to be potentially derailed by an interesting opportunity.

It’s seriously first world problems but now I’m not sure what I want to do.

Argh and it gets worse/better.

I should be grateful to have options but now I’m just confused.

Are they actually? I always tend to think of DCTs as a higher end performance option. I'd have thought most cars were ordinary autos or CVTs?

The camera bump on my S26 Ultra is absolutely insanely massive and makes the entire phone entirely unstable on a flat surface without adding the bulk of a case. I don't need a 150,000,000,000 megapixel camera with me 16 hours a day.

I know I shouldn't say it on a tech website, and maybe you're well placed to answer, but is it exciting updating phones these days? I now look them a bit like whiteware, oh I can't be bothered, I just want the same as the old but newer and don't want to look at a billion specs.

Sorry fellow geeks.

Sorry fellow geeks.

I'm a tech nerd, I've owned every single Samsung Flagship since before they were known as Smartphones. I was at one stage changing 2-3 times a year (back when the note and galaxy were different phones). Now I settle for 1 a year, but I look forward to it. The S26 (from the S25) is possibly the smallest upgrade I've experienced a year apart so far, and the camera bump makes it almost a net negative upgrade for me.

That's really not typical though.

I will say however that the change over time on phones is down to almost nothing. I'd say I spent 30 minutes on the entire changeover excepting the time for the data to copy because I have a bit of it. Most apps logged in seamlessly, and work well.

In times of doubt and chaos, choose simplicity and inner peace. No matter how much we fight it, the right answers come from that voice inside. What makes you happiest is often not what makes you richest. Keep safe.

I'll be honest I still dread phone swaps on Android. I've used Apple for work almost exclusively, but Android personally. My last two personal phones have sat in their boxes for a week or so before I can summon up the strength to set them up!! I'm impressed with thirty minutes!!
