I know I shouldn't say it on a tech website, and maybe you're well placed to answer, but is it exciting updating phones these days? I now look them a bit like whiteware, oh I can't be bothered, I just want the same as the old but newer and don't want to look at a billion specs.

Sorry fellow geeks.

No, on android and I despise phone upgrades because launcher change will mean there is no way that my app locations could come across even if that was an offered feature. The crap iPhone one at least is consistent so they can move them over.

New google bollux they enforce locking it down more meaning older apps will not work. So I have to keep the old phone to be able to run apps for older IoT things that will never see an app update. Call recording gone because of google forcing their own crippled dialer.

Are they actually? I always tend to think of DCTs as a higher end performance option. I'd have thought most cars were ordinary autos or CVTs?

Apparently so. The jump from making manual gearboxes to DCT is less than torque converter or CVT autos.

I had wondered if it was because Chinese auto makers had absorbed so many failed Western companies.

High performance is great until you meet stop start traffic.

I'll be honest I still dread phone swaps on Android. I've used Apple for work almost exclusively, but Android personally. My last two personal phones have sat in their boxes for a week or so before I can summon up the strength to set them up!! I'm impressed with thirty minutes!!

I have a LOT of apps. I would guess for the average person it, it would be even less. Samsung to Samsung is incredible right now, I don't think I could ask for better.

I've bought something from overseas and have a tracking link for it. The tracking page shows the date it left the origin country, but it says that an estimated delivery date is not available for packages leaving the country. There is, however, a link to an Average Delivery Timeframes page, which has a nice big table of countries and the average timeframes for the Courier, Express and Standard service levels.

As this is the Annoys thread, I'm sure none of you will be surprised to learn that the tracking page doesn't list the service level.

Trump and the US have caused my grandson's European school trip to be cancelled. These fascist warmongers have devastated my grandson. A year of fundraising every weekend wasted. I am beyond angry.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Oh bugger. I hope they at least get their money back and can consider a trip somewhere else?

Perhaps belongs in a thread “Something big that really pisses you off”?

You and other people who have not only had their plans thwarted, but losing money because they didn’t buy insurance on time. One friend paid on the day before the war, non refundable hotel bookings and flights, probably the last trip they can ever make due to illness.

Nothing is looking positive for the future of the world.

Travel insurance policies exclude war anyway.

First rule of travel insurance: Buy it immediately after booking your flights.

But, as pointed out above, they wouldn’t have been covered for war, civil insurrection etc - no matter when it was bought.

We are booked for a holiday to Australia in May. Have booked a rental car and hope that petrol is available as not staying in the cities we fly into.

That's terrible. War and conflict are so frequent these days travel networks route around it constantly. The war disruption clauses seem like an anachronism.

Does the non-refundable mean they have a credit to re-book?

Against my better judgement I updated to iOS 26 (since 18 isn't getting security updates any more) and found that despite claims from the fanboys that it's "just a new theme", that it's also broken my muscle memory by moving things.

^100%

Try going hey siri reduce motion as that will remove some of the annoying fluff.  I also found a restart of the phone a few days after the update improved performance.  I’ve noticed an annoying slow down between settings pages where im so used to things opening instantly that i instinctively tap again when it doesn’t only to find im taping on another menu item

I don't mean animations: I mean buttons that have moved.
