floydbloke:
Chat windows that don't have a 'Save to' or 'Email to' feature.
I used one the other day that, upon completion of the conversation, replaced itself with "thanks for contacting us" with no way of returning to the transcript.

At this point use the privacy act to request information they hold about you.

Not saying you should have to do this, but can't you just select all, copy, and paste if it really matters?

When I have tried their optimizations and scrolling loading things made it only have a few lines of content available to copy at any time. Plus it makes a mess of the formatting of who said what because that was styled onto the text so copy and paste just got the text even when pasting into a rich editor. Printing was not an option either. Its like they design them to be hostile to people that want to keep records.

They probably do. They probably know that in a lot of cases they won't do what they promise to do, so they just try to get rid of the evidence.
04:00 Monday. Smoke alarm goes *BIP!*. I begrudgingly haul myself out of bed. Of course, I have no idea which alarm it was. I pull the batteries out of the two closest ones (which I'll call A and B) and go back to bed. A couple of minutes later alarm A makes a squelchy sort of noise as it tries to bip again but the capacitors drain. Blissful silence for the rest of the night. I gave it a new battery in the morning, tested it, and put it back on the wall. Alarm B also passed its test so went back on the wall too.
04:00 Today. *BIP!*. Argh. So it wasn't alarm A after all. I get up and yank the battery out of alarm C then go back to bed. Silence.
05:30 Today. *BIP!*.

That didn't work for this particular one, I ended up taking screensnips.
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Chortle! Sorry, sorry! I just found this ironically amusing. Am I a bad person?
The connectors in battery compartments always getting battery juice on them and corroding. One spring just fell out of my multimeter ... I wonder if anyone can repair this?
Might stick to USB-C chargeable devices only in future.

There may also be corrosion on the circuit boards under the battery compartment.
Once the corrosion is in, damn difficult to remediate. You can clean with mild vinegar, and rinse, but once the battery gunk has eaten through any conformal coating, it's generally beyond repair.
Leave the battery screw out, and remove batteries when not in use.
That end is probably just connecting the two batteries together. You can buy those of aliexpress. Or you can just solder a wire onto two batteries.. open the case up and have a look.

Thanks, I’ve learnt it’s called “battery shrapnel” !
Aliexpress: almost daily email "Your 2 packages have delivery updates".... No they don't, they were delivered 10 days ago and marked as received.

I've "suffered" that several times myself. Eventually it stops!
