Gregg's spices disappearing from all of the local Foodstuff supermarkets - for customer benefit of course.

This leaves only MasterFoods and Mrs Rogers ranges. Sure, no packet of Gregg's spices was ever able to be opened without tearing the lid, but once you were in everything was great. MasterFoods is overpriced and Mrs Rogers has some of the worst packaging I've ever encountered - a tiny little plastic bag, inside a tight cardboard box, with almost no empty space so that as soon as you cut it open it you spill the contents everywhere. Even the next to useless bamboo peg has been removed.

I hope you are not blaming Foodstuff for someone else's decision.

It seems to be a knee-jerk reaction if they've pulled the products due to a proposal.

Contrast with something like Jaffas where they confirmed that they were ceasing manufacturing, but they were still available for months afterwards.

That's only a "proposal", and only for the instant coffee manufacturing. Sure, it's unfortunate for the people that "may" lose their jobs, but less instant coffee in the world can only be a good thing.

I was not aware of that brand closing. The Watties frozen closure (proposal) surprised me and explains why I could find few NZ grown frozen veges recently. Apparently supermarkets were removing them.

Started new discussion for the supermarket changes and the resulting Watties/Greggs fallout:

Kids with no regard for others properties. I watched a kid on a rent a scooter type thing, get bored riding, and whilst it was still moving, just jumped off it. it smashed into the concrete probably doing 15 kmph. Huge crash. I felt like stopping and giving the kid a piece of my mind, but I didn't really feel like getting shot by an angry parent.

Kid was absolutely old enough to know better.

Hopefully Windows file explorer will annoy me slightly less in future. Insider notification:

"Faster and more dependable File Explorer: File Explorer is one of the most used surfaces in Windows. Our first round of improvements will focus on a quicker launch experience, reduced flicker, smoother navigation and more reliable performance for everyday file tasks."

I really doubt they'll have much impact in the first update. I hope they will continue. It has years and years worth of awful to address. The number of unresponsive and crash scenarios - ginourmous.

The "decision" is at least in part driven by the supermarket duopoly which demands the same profitability from locally sourced items as it does from cheap foreign exports. At some point it stops making sense for Heinz to keep producing these foods onshore when all the supermarkets are interested in is costs and rebates.

I'd love to say they can't make it any worse, but I probably thought that in Windows 10 yet here we are.

I wondered where that bamboo peg came from - the number of times it's been reused for things is astounding!

The number of times I have started a few TB of stuff moving between places and come back and its just on 0 thruput, cant cancel, cant pause, and closing the window just makes those jammed up tasks come back on it the next time I am moving something is large.

That and its stubborn refusal to start to move anything until it has counted how much it has to move which alone can take 5 mins over the network.

Watercare billing.

Card didn't go thru for the last one, they don't tell you that and just put it on the next bill, and then send you a "reminder" about it a bit later.

Go to pay the overdue amount, firstly the site defaults to wanting to take the full amount.

Second, they want to charge a surcharge on the payment. No surcharge if I leave it and just have the whole amount charged when they charge the next one, so that is what I will be doing.

Good grief, yes. "Preparing to delete" so it can show a progress bar. Just delete! Sometimes it's faster to go to the command line and do it from there. And don't get me started on "Cancelling". Just stop!
