I cannot stand the noise

A friend of mine got it while she was on a call, so it screeched right in her ear. Ridiculous design (Android).

As had to remove coating to get it to work, what was point of coating in first place, as once unwrapped will be putting in device straight away.

Most devices aren't impacted by the coating. Airtags are just more sensitive.

Just discovered some cell batteries have a bitter coating on them to make more child safe.

Problem is some devices like Apple AirTag show as the battery being completely dead and won’t work.

I stopped buying Duracell batteries for this reason. Energizer seems to work fine.

Infuriating Apple keyboard and spelling getting worse. I can type a word correctly, it gets changed to an incorrect spelling with no meaning. Regrds is a favourite. No matter how carefully I type it still comes out wrong and underlined in red, so it does know it’s incorrect. When I click on the red underlined word, it shows me the arrow to return to the previous correctly typed spelling and a few other nonsense renditions of the word.

Takes me twice as long to type because it randomly self corrects words to a spelling that doesn’t exist and it’s easy to skim over a paragraph and miss it completely even though I’ve turned off many settings and power cycled the device.

If you mistype a word the same way too many times then it'll automatically add it to the autocorrect dictionary. As far as I can tell, there's no way to actually see or edit this dictionary, which is probably something for the brain dead software thread!

Yep. I will be reading labels and buying ones without coating in future. I use to think a battery is a battery. But now I know have to check brands.

Most devices are probably fine, but searching it can effect car key fobs and other devices, so it’s not just Apple AirTags it causes problems for.

Yep - when I was still working, I accidentally typed the word 'discount', with the c and the o reversed, so many times it got picked up by the dictionary. Caused all sorts of problems (True story).

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The fact that every TV show these days has such a poor ending to the first season so they can leave something open in the hopes of being picked up for a second season. I’m going to stop watching the first season of new shows now until I know at least 3 have been produced and they can be streamed concurrently.

I think you either produce a procedural with an arc (the whole 22 episodes with monster/mystery of the week), or you produce a mini-series.

If you produce a mini-series, a six-episode run is more than enough - it could even fit on a feature film. Eight episodes is pushing, and anything more than that is stupid. And if you have to leave a cliffhanger on a six-episode series, then it certainly is not worthy.

This really is a little annoyance: a trend on YouTube. When you have, for example, a contest with 27 entrants in it, and people come up with a "My Top 27" video. There are only 27 entrants. Top 27 is all of them!

They really mean it's their ranking, but for some reason they call it "Top 27" instead. I'd love to know where this name came from and why people thought it was a good idea to perpetuate it.

The latest Firefox update has added a "cute" cartoon of a fox playing with cables when a website has an error, and all technical details have been scrubbed. As the site administrator I want to know what's going wrong (I then tried Edge, which reported the HTTP status code). Does anyone know how to restore the previous Firefox behaviour?

It seems that sanity has prevailed, and with the latest update it once again displays the actual error.

Not sure how small some people would view the ever-increasing cost of a M365 subscription, but...

Got an email last week that started off with "Microsoft is committed to IMPROVING your Microsoft 365 subscription" (my emphasis), and then proceeds to explain that they are removing a product and forcing me to convert any documents I may have wished to keep/use via that product into a form that another product may or may not be able to do anything with.

How, exactly, is that an "improvement" ??  Sigh....

John Campbell has joined Morning Report. What a way to totally ruin a good thing. It's even worse than Wallace Champman being in charge of the drive home.
