Behodar:

This week I became aware of a business unit using some outdated software. They were on version 7, and the current version is 17.

Can I upgrade it straight from 7 to 17? Nope. You can upgrade it to 8.5 in one fell swoop, but no further.

How about 8.5 to 17? Nope. The documentation says you must first upgrade to 10 before you can upgrade to "latest".

So, upgrade from 8.5 to 10? Don't be silly: you need to be on 8.18 before you can upgrade to 10.

I finally get it onto 10 and try upgrading it to 17, and it crashes. I look up the error and find a few forum posts about it. It turns out that the documentation is outdated and was written when "latest" was an earlier version. You need to upgrade to 13 before you can upgrade to 17.

I really hope this is the last step because I'm going bonkers here.

I think you're remarkably lucky that all those old software versions are available for download on the vendor's site.
I've been in similar situations where I've had to beg for copies of older software through user group forums or ringing up mates in the same line of business "do you by any chance have a copy of version x.y.z lying around?"

You'll be lucky with anything functions still work after that many upgrades... "oh you forgot to migrate the reports from template Z to the new template prior to the 8.18 update..." "we deprecated classic workflows in version 12.1" etc.

I might be the only person who queues properly.

Here are the rules:
Don't stand so close to the person in front that you're in their personal space. It's weird. If they turn around and they're standing nose-to-nose with you, you're standing too close.

Don't stand so far back that it looks like you're not even in the queue. We're not in covid restrictions anymore. And if you're not in the queue, don't linger around so close that it looks like you might be in the queue. Nobody likes a lingerer.

What i hate the most with queues is when it's all disorganized and you can't tell where the back of the line is. This leads to standing behind people that are just loitering and you have to ask if they're in the queue, or you join what you think is the back of the line only to find you're half butting in and have to move to the very end back behind people that queued up long after you did.

Another:  With Apple Car Play, the volume of the spoken navigation is simply set with the volume buttons on the mobile. On AA, it seems you need to hit the setup button for the head unit. Options has no volume control other than setting it for silent or alerts only.

Car i hired in Aussie had voice directions set to maximum which was not fun when existing an airport with nowhere to pull over.  Setting volume to zero using the usual volume control did nothing other than change media (radio/music) volume.

Just yesterday, the person behind me was about 2 cm away. I inched forward and she just immediately closed the gap. After a minute or so of this I pondered scratching my back and "accidentally" bumping her in the process, but ended up just pulling my phone out and trying to distract myself.

Similar for vehicle queues at intersections and traffic lights. Really annoying when people leave huge gaps leaving no room for cars behind to enter the lane.

Im my car, the volume of the spoken navigation in AA is set if you adjust the volume of the head unit while it is speaking. Ourside of that, it obviously just adjust the music etc.

ANZ used to allow you - like almost any other bank I have used - to receive an SMS to verify your device for Apple Pay. That's no longer the case since the past few months at least.

Now, you need to call and speak with a real person to verify.

This even happens despite them adding a native Apple Wallet app flow where you enter your ANZ Online Banking PIN - not your phone/device PIN - to be able to setup the card automatically.

I dare say there's been a large uptick in fraud, which forced them into an unpopular change.

This could have gone in the Windows thread but I feel it fits better here. I am really annoyed by the latest (10 and 11) OS upgrades to File Explorer which is now so chaotic and confusing that I can't use it at all anymore. Maybe it just me and everyone else thinks it is all just marvelous but all I see is a complete mess of incomprehensible bits and bobs all over the place with overlays and hidden elements that make no sense whatsoever. Even the file path has been truncated so you can't easily see where you are. I guess I could go to Microsoft University for four years to learn how it all works, if it does, but instead I have just installed a very old version of my favourite file manager Powerdesk. It is a gem of rational simplicity. There are visible windows, which can be adjusted in all dimensions, with clear paths that just show you where the file you are working on is located and context menus that give you all the tools you need with just a click. What a revelation!

Power users like yourself tend to whip into the options and make it semi-sensible on the view tab.

Now you mention it I see "display the full path in the title bar" doesn't really do the business anymore.

I guess there's some other option now to turn off all the irrelevant candy in the path field, maybe.
