The NZ Herald publishes "Explainer: Major health sector reforms - what you need to know about the changes" and put it behind the paywal.

A health article that affects the whole country. Behind a paywall.

Great service there.

“New Zealand exported $3.9 billion worth of goods to the EU in 2021.

For comparison, the EU bloc of countries and Asean bloc accounted for 6.4 per cent and 10.1 per cent, respectively, of New Zealand's exports over the same period, Westpac said.”

Utterly useless comparison.

Bid to hold driver's licence without photo on religious grounds rejected - NZ Herald

"Stephen Butcher believes driver's licence photos are the "mark of the beast".

In fact, he is so firm in his belief that he's taken the New Zealand Transport Agency to court, where he's cited a thousand-year-old piece of papyrus, containing a portion of the Bible's New Testament written in Ancient Greek, as evidence of religious discrimination.

His primary argument centred around the fact he should be able to hold a valid New Zealand driver's licence without needing a photo of himself, his signature or a barcode on it "

This is not a fact. That's Stephen's idea. Journalists should not state someone's ideas as "facts" if they aren't.

Also, Stephen Butcher's photo is now on the papers. Mark of the beast, alright.

But they do this all the time. If they get called out or fact checked, they claim “alternate facts”.

Looks like the writer fell into the trap of summarizing speech or a view instead of quoting. I think most people would recognize that line as a claim made by the defendant. Good article other than that.

Butcher argued that the way a computer digitises photographs, signatures and barcodes on a driver's licence into binary code creates a pattern that can be added together to make 666, aka "the mark of the beast"

Defendant has the ability to add and subtract any numbers to reach 666.

From:https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/technology/2022/07/seattle-couple-get-massive-fibre-shock-with-us27-000-price-tag-for-internet-install.html

...Only old-fashioned ADSL, offering speeds of just 3Mbps download and 500kbps download, was ever going to be available to the couple without splashing out a fortune on new cables.

It can even be argued that New Zeakand is better off than our neighbours in Australia.

The National Broadband Network there has been plagued with issues and has cost an estimated AU$50 billion to deliver a network that's less competitive than New Zealand's. ...

Where is the New Zeakand place? They spell New Zealand correct on the next line!

I'm astunded by the number of places that don't bother to spellcheck.

[Legitimate typo, but I decided to leave it in for comedy]

Or,

They do use spellcheck, but have the standard defaults of "Don't check words with capital letters" and "Don't check words with numbers"

And/or

The user is completely spell-clueless, so is as likely to pick a wrong suggestion as the right one

Amazing attention to detail and not a rehashed article from last year at all, Herald (today).

“Why you'll love it: For the past six years, Mount Hutt, near the alpine village of Methven, has been voted the country's best ski resort. Maybe in 2021 it will reclaim its title”

It's actually the same old article, just updated. Google shows it as published last year
