Had my checked bag opened and something confiscated a couple of months ago. My own fault – had bought something which had some spare batteries included in the box and I didn’t even think to take them out. The bag came off at the other end unlocked and partially open which wasn’t really ideal though nothing else seemed to be missing – I sent aviation security some feedback on this and never got a reply.

It wasn’t until traveling again on Saturday that I discovered I could no longer lock the relatively new suitcase. It has a built in lock but in opening it with the TSA key it looks like they have left it in the unlocked position so that all possible codes are just unlocked and I can’t even reset it. Will send in another complaint but doubt that will go anywhere. It looks like you can buy the TSA keys very cheaply on Temu. Anyone tried and know if they actually work? If it’s easy for anyone to get hold of the keys then it doesn’t seem a very secure system but that’s another story.

It's my opinion that most organisations don't give a damn about feedback. Increase this number if it's a government operation.

I sent an email to NZTA about the new Wellington walkway from Ngauranga to Petone, and received neither a reply nor an acknowledgement. I had low expectations of hearing back from them, and those were met.

I was overcharged for a train trip when I was in Sydney. I emailed Transport NSW and was told it may take up to 20 business days to get a response. Finally, after 71 calendar days, they issued a refund (but didn't tell me they'd done so; I just happened to notice it in my bank account).

Last weekend we decided to walk the new Te Ara Tupua path between Ngauranga train station to Petone (five kms along SH2 from Wellington). Great project, packed on a beautiful day.

After my run-in with prostate cancer and the subsequent surgery, I am more aware of the need to pee. And I needed to pee. There was not a single toilet along the way. Plenty of defibrillators, but nowhere to pee.

Halfway through, my wife and I were thinking about what the plan would be if there were no toilets at the end. Should we go to the train station, cafe, supermarket or petrol station?

At the Petone end, there were two toilets. Dirty, no working flush and no toilet paper. For thousands of people.

We took the train back to Ngauranga station. And there are no toilets in Ngauranga as it's just a platform. If anyone is walking from Petone to Wellington... Well, you will be out of luck.

Also, worth noting, there are no signs from the road to the Ngauranga train station to indicate how to get to the path. We just followed the large flow of people. But if there was no one there, we wouldn't know.

I contacted NZTA to give feedback, using an email for the project. I have not heard anything from them.

@freitasm the lack of toilets on Te Ara Tupua is a big oversight I had thought there was toilets. The lack of this means that many disabled and older folk will have problems with this. I am very disappointed as it’s a no go for me.

A world that has gone totally insane.

Yeah that’s something I wondered about. I get the train to work from Petone so noticed along the way there didn’t seem to be any toilets and I know there’s nothing anywhere near walking distance at Ngauranga. There is one at Petone station in the waiting room/old ticket office, but not sure of the hours it’s open. Otherwise Mobil next to Petone station or Z across the road would be the closest.

Surprisingly got a quick reply back from AVSEC. No apology for the way they left my bag, just said the only way to get the lock re-engaged is with a TSA key and to ask for security to do this next time I go to the airport. In hindsight we probably should have asked at check in/bag drop but we were running a little tight for time and I thought it would take a while to get someone from security to come. Might just try one of the temu TSA keys for a couple of dollars in case it happens again, and if it doesn’t work try and get it sorted next time I’m at the airport.

Had not dissimilar happen to an acquaintance. Had a $500 pair of earbuds confiscated from checked luggage because apparently the charging case is considered a powerbank. She can get them back by paying a $100.

Yes, her fault, but what annoys me about these big organisations, and particularly the air travel industry:

If the passenger/customer messes up it's the passenger/customer who ends up inconvenienced and/or out of pocket
If the organisation messes up it's (more often than not) the passenger/customer who ends up inconvenienced and/or out of pocket

And if it got fixed, there'd be complaints about ratepayer money going down the toilet. (Pun fully intended.)

Lucky there’s even an option to get them back. I had that happen previously – an earlier incident to the one I posted above. I had a powerbank in my carryon backpack on the flight away, didn’t use it or even take it out of the bag on the trip, then chucked the backpack in the checked bag on the way back forgetting the powerbank was in there. I emailed AVSEC pretty much as soon as I got home and found the note inside the bag to see if there was any possibility of retrieving it. They said they don’t hold confiscated goods but they get handed to the airline to go into a locker and to contact them. Airline told me they don’t receive confiscated goods and to go back to AVSEC. I tried the airport’s lost property as a last resort and they also told me to go back to the airline or AVSEC so just had to write it off. I assume anything of value gets pocketed by staff rather than thrown into the rubbish. They did at least re-lock the bag on that occasion.

I did ask about retrieval again in the initial feedback on this incident, but this time there wasn’t enough value to worry about it.

Why are they charging that much to get them back? Is it intended to be purely punitive?

I've just had it confirmed that the $100 case I mentioned involved shipping and handling/admin so that's probably not unreasonable when I think about it.
