I hope this does not happen to me for at least a decade.

Buy them a Bumbo floor seat. Best and handiest gift ever. Have yet to meet anyone that doesn’t swear by them.
Thanks - never heard of those, so googled. Looks brilliant so we’ll do that. 👍

I had to transfer data off some very old laptop drives. These are from the beginning of the century, mostly Win 98. I couldn’t find the IDE USB interface I made years ago, so had to do it the hard way. This involved resurrecting a very old pc with XP on it. I could then connect the drives to an IDE cable from the motherboard as slave data drives. After that I was able to read the Documents folders and copy them temporarily to the pc hard drive.
What made me smile is that I found myself really enjoying playing with the old technology again. I had to fiddle with a lot of things to get the pc going and to work out the jumper settings for the drives. I guess it is a bit like those people who play with old steam trains. I wouldn’t want to have to rely on this set-up for all my computing needs, as I once did, but it is kind of fun to make an occasional trip down memory lane and call once again on long-forgotten skills.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
My youngest (15yo) has about $150 in Xmas money - and it's tearing him apart inside because he hasn't spent it all yet!
He simply cannot hold onto money...it HAS to be spent, or the world will implode.

Huh, the youth of today. Back when I were a lad we would turn every penny over three times before spending it [...] in the rain and snow [...] uphill both ways [...] old water tank on a rubbish tip [...] half a handful of freezing cold gravel [...] pay mill owner for permission to come to work [...] rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb.
