richms: Back then they probably protected it with something that causes cancer.

Creosote, according to the book.

Ever since they switched to organic wholemeal water (warning, possible carcinogen in the state of California) as a preservative things went to the dogs.

funny because its true 😂

This is the power pole removed near here today. (I told them 2 years ago that it was not good, and was told "The lines will hold it up!")

...

My parents property in New Plymouth managed to get fibre trenched to the house, in an otherwise aerial only install area, because the pole immediately outside thier property had a "Do Not Climb" notice on it because of its condition.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

A bit clickbaity, if you want to buy ammunition in quantity you go to the ammunition aisle in the supermarket and get it from there.  They typically don't have military stuff like 5.56 FMJ but you can get that from any gun store.

(I don't know the state-by-state situation but it was certainly available in supermarkets in redneck areas I've been in).

yep. even here ammo was/is sold at sporting shops and farm stores. nothing unusual.

the big difference in the usa was the price and volume. you can buy ammo by the bucket and people think nothing of shooting off a bucket of ammo for a bit of afternoon fun.

"military stuff like 5.56 fmj" thats to funny 🤣

Notice the two green wires, one connected to the red, the other connected to the blue ? Those are phase and neutral on the main switch....

Yeah and? Its internal appliance wiring, they can use whatever they like. The tables in 3000 only cover fixed and flexible cables.

Firstly, if its come from china, you cant expect them to cater to NZ regs.

When a friend was bringing in appliances and some of them had green internal to them between switches and motors, an electrician who was hired to "install" one kicked up a stink and it was all fine in the end, and the end advice was that it was only the supply cord that mattered and had to comply with the standards for flex cords, which it did as it was swapped when they came into the country.

No surprises there.

Surely you've seen (the somewhat controversial) Bowling For Columbine?

Grab a haircut.  Would you like a few rounds for that there rifle?

Come on, where on earth (pun intended) is it appropriate for green to be both 230v AC phase and neutral right next to each other on the same switch, crimped to cables of the correct colour?

The electrician should have stuck to his guns and refused or insisted it go through a full TELARC compliance test. Personally I would have said NO and walked away

If this was extra low voltage signal wires (eg multicore wires) I would not care, I see that everyday, but on the mains side...BZZZZZZZZTTTT...FAIL... DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER DANGER.

However this bit of gear is for work, used in a Chemistry Lab. There were discussions with China prior to the end user ordering it about electrical requirements ( I have rewired a lot of Chinese made stuff, however I have also come across stuff that has been incredibly well designed and built, better than the some of  stuff we have had out of Germany and the USA).

This is not some cheapo 5 minute wonder junk device , this is supposedly industrial quality and therefore I would have also presumed not to have such a basic screw up like this in it.

So...the saga will continue with everyone saying "not me" when it comes to being responsible for the rebuild costs. But until someone stumps up, it sits in the back of the workshop gathering dust.

On the plus side I fixed a large autoclave that had a death scream going on, sounded like a high pressure steam leak, but no, it was the rubber door gasket that had not been removed, cleaned and lubricated for ages (a fault others did not find and gave up on).
