You can watch the last few weeks worth of shows and movies. Quality is excellent.

You need the account holders name, birth date and the Sky account number, that is all.

Given the huge amount of bandwidth Telecom have blessed us with, I think I'll be making more use of it!

Any Sky account I believe.

And if you're with Vodafone, the traffic doesn't count against your usage. (http://www.vodafone.co.nz/entertainment/tv/sky/isky/)

Yes you can, however i believe you can only watch things that aired on the channel that your subscription allows, Say for example you do not have SoHo (the original statement) you cannot watch things that air on there. Or no movie channels? I do not believe you can watch movies either.

I love how you guys complain you can't watch Game of Thrones in NZ online if you don't subscribe to Sky. If you don't subscribe to HBO in America its the same story, likewise in the UK if you don't subscribe to BSkyb. Ultimately, you have to pay to get quality TV. Why? Because it costs real money to produce. There's a great article by The Economist analysing the HBO model and how it works: http://www.economist.com/node/21526314

Really you should quote someone in the thread so we know to whom you are referring - otherwise it is all guess work!

I certainly think people should pay for what they are getting (or want to get). But I thought the cartoons just referenced were very good as they portrayed the pathetic grasp that the movie and television studios have on how the modern public want media delivered (or how they want to access it) and exactly why there is such a large piracy issue (if some quarters are to be believed).

Reality is that they (the studios) could drastically help the situation, but they choose instead to run with antiquated models to generate excessive profits whilst continuing to ignore public demand. (They are getting better - but they are still along way off the mark, IMO)

He converted the US costs to NZ$ therefore he isn't comparing apples and apples. Content is cheaper in the US, simple as that.

One way to look at it is that Sky have practices I disagree with, monopoly deals limiting QuickFlix. I do things Sky disagrees with, downloading content.

Why should I hold myself to a higher standard than Sky does?

I would pay a reasonable amount per episode OR for a season pass to be able to watch a 720p version of Game of Thrones on demand.

I am not willing to pay Sky's unreasonable amount for their broadcast bundle of stuff, most of which I will never watch. It's even more galling that SOHO's picture/image/video quality is so bad/compressed.

As long as content producers and broadcasting platforms fail to face the future and cling to their obsolete business models and gatekeeper mentality people will actively find ways around the problem.

The industry is leaving wide open a niche, they aren't providing what users want... interest in Fyx, Unblock US, VPN's, SeedBoxes and private torrent sites is not going to stop until they offer a real alternative.

It happened with pirate radio in the early days, it happened with PC gaming pre Steam and it's happening now with tv/movies on the internet.
