It had me confused too. I saw the ad & was still puzzling over the thought that there was something not quite right about it, but I didn't know what. Had to rewind and look again LOL.

The problem is that once you have seen that mirror-reversing you can't unsee it. Now that ad really sticks out even when I fast-forward through the ad breaks. Don't blame me if that happens to you now!

Then again, there is a whole forum here for users of "2degree" who might crack a bit of a smile at this

Sometimes, though, its not the users fault. Autocorrect can throw out some incredible typos. Like the time "public hearing" was changed on my phone to "pubic hairing". Not only did I not know that "hairing" was a word but I also didn't spot it until after the message was sent.

Maybe a, "Sent from a mobile device that may or may not be responsible for spelling errors" auto-sig would be in order here? LOL

While we are at it: I hate the American spelling that has crept in. Tire vs tyre, color vs colour, neighbour vs neighbor, grr even my computer hates it as I get the red wiggly when I spell it correctly even when making this post.

I'm seeing American spelling even here on GZ. Sometimes I receive Word documents from people in NZ where the document language is set to US; people simply don't have their location/language set correctly!

On that note, I'm also going to grizzle about Safari on OS X, which sends an Accept-Language header of en-GB instead of en-NZ, causing some sites to give me UK-specific information.

Yes! Don't get me started on the "Drury Tires" stickers on the back of half the cars in Sth Auckland. I grind my teeth every time I'm stuck behind one of them in traffic.

It would appear that "Drury Tires" has a small identity crisis - torn between two cultures.

Their profile web pages describes the business thus......

Yup, I think it is. Definitely nothing compared to some of the "works of art" I've seen from users here!

Ahh, Safari. Even after setting my language to en-NZ, it still insists on telling me my NZ spelling is incorrect. No, darn it, "honour" has a bloody "u" in it! (It actually autocorrected that to remove the "u" when I typed it. I had to retype it twice before it would allow it, and it still added red squiggles). I've done everything in the Apple guide to set my language to at least British English, (including the required reboot - wtf?!?) and it still insists that if it's not American, it's wrong.

I have no problems with the Safari spellchecker, but I agree that it's complicated to set up.

Close Safari. Go to Sys Prefs > Language & Text > Drop down the spelling language thing on the right > Setup > Deselect US English > Select British > OK. Reopen Safari and it should use proper spelling. No reboot is needed.

Note that I'm explaining that from memory so I might not have the wording quite right :)

American spelling is subversive. For years I joked that I spoke two languages fluently (and a few others less fluently) - American English and real English. After years of having to write in the former, for US readers, and having to change grammar to boot, I no longer write correctly in either language. My own English has become a hybrid and I had to go out and buy a book that details the differences in an effort to get my own language back.

I can now write in good US English but when I write for UK or NZ readers I have to actually think about how I am using words.

The more we interact with US English on the internet the more likely it is that we will absorb their language without being aware of it.
