Comparison sites have to get retailers on board. Obviously not all retailers will list in all sites at the same time.

Also you have to look at the sites with the information you want (prices) in a format that lets you find it (easy to read lists, easy to links to stores, speed, etc).

I would say ours (powered by PriceMe) is doing well in these aspects. Work in progress, more to be done this week and next.

Sorry for going off topic but while I have your attention, is t really necessary to get an email every time someone replies to a thread I watch? Most forums I know of send you one email notification and unless you log in you will not get another email. I meanwhile got about 10 emails because ppl replied to this thread.

Just as an idea. I assume many people on here do get a flood of emails every day. It would help to reduce this email flood a bit.

Cheers

Peter

OK, topic on again.

Go to your profile page and change the email frequency there - for every reply, once an hour, once a day or a single notification.

Just played with it, looks like a good start. Looking forward to the advanced options rolling out.

A quick point about the "blank page" someone mentioned in an earlier comment:

I found that any "Visit shop" link gets me to a ResponseRedirect.aspx URL at www.priceme.co.nz with a blank page.

Pressing F5 to refresh, I still get a blank page. But if I left-click in the URL bar to focus there and press Enter, it goes to the shop website.

I looked at the page source, and it seems Priceme are using what I would think is an unusual Javascript way to track the visit with google-analytics. I generally block all google-analytics requests, from anywhere. With browser plugins temporarily put on a leash to allow everything in, I get directly to the shop page without the blank page in between.

Yeah it's good to have options!

This is what the Gearbot developer said about "getting retailers on board" awhile back:

When I started the site, I was under the illusion that retailers would be happy to provide xml/csv lists. The reality is that most stores have no Web guy on staff and dont know how to make an xml list, or they really don't care at all about SEO, or have any online marketing plan. Only About 7 of the 100 odd stores listed have feeds. Most stores dont even know we list them (or reply to our emails).

You basically have to scrap or crawl sites and act sort of like a search engine spider/bot to have a meaningful list of stores.

Correct. We found the same when companies approached us interested in providing job listings for jobs.geekzone.co.nz: when I asked them to make a XML available at a specific URL... That was the end of the story. The only one capable of doing it was jobs.co.nz, really.

Looks pretty good.

Couple of points:
*I assume the pirce shown inlcudes GST
* Would be nice to know shipping costs or if free/inlcuded in the price shown

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Searching for Zyxel shows just a single wireless adaptor (Zyxel G170S Wireless cardbus card Zyxel G170S Wireless cardbus card)

but above this are 2 link saying
ADSL Modems & Routers (5) | Wireless Adapters (1)

clicking on either of them just shows the wireless cardbus card.

Trying a different tack and navigating from the front page -> Networking -> More ADSL modems -> Brands -> More-> Zyxel also shows zero results, although it shows Zyxel (5) suggesting to me there should be 5 results?

Excellent I use sites like this all the time. Often however I am researching and go back to the retailer site later to purchase. Am I right in thinking that I would need to go back through the search when I am about to purchase in order for Geekzone to get the benefit?

You have to click through the search to the retailers - just browsing without leaving our site won't give us anything...

That's true for other comparison sites too... They only get paid if you go to the retailer through their links, otherwise...
