Tabuti: How much are they asking you to pay?

if its under $100 then its not really something to complain about & I would just be happy I won a free ticket to Hong Kong

$416.46?Cry

So expensive...

Ouchh. That sounds really high for a 'prize' that is supposed to provide something for free. DO you have the $416.65 detailed as to what that covers. When you buy an airline ticket, you don't have to pay for 'fuel', so I am not sure what they mean by that. Airline ticket prices should include fuel, as that is part of the ticket price. It is like buying a bus ticket ,and then them charging you extra for the diesel for the bus on top of that. Or is it some levy. I would have thought that the only fees you would pay is perhaps the departure taxes, and the cost of getting yourself to the airport

Haha.. You'd wish.. Look below! Cry

Auckland – Hong Kong – Auckland

Fuel Surcharge                                  NZD346.00

Taxes                                                    NZD  70.46

TOTAL                                                   NZD416.46

Auckland ? Hong Kong ? Auckland

?

Fuel Surcharge????????????????????????????????? NZD346.00

Taxes??????????????????????????????????????????????????? NZD? 70.46

TOTAL?????????????????????????????????????????????????? NZD416.46

In that case you may want to contact the DIA just to confirm whether they can add those on. I suppose a couple of hundred each way isn't a huge cost for a trip to hong kong, but it is a significant extra cost I think in terms of a competition. The actual $ amount cost probably should have been disclosed in the competition terms too.

I am not sure if the info below applies or not, but they would be able to tell you.

http://www.dia.govt.nz/Services-Casino-and-Non-Casino-Gaming-The-Rules-for-Running-a-Gambling-Activity#four

(13) Prize winners must not incur costs additional to the cost of participation in the prize competition when claiming their prize.

Remember this was a contest run in another country. So I doubt any local (NZ) laws regarding these types of issues apply.

Woah, no it wasn't. The company is NZ based. It's just an Asian/NZ company..

I though Chinese TV were in NZ. But that is a good point if they aren't. But I am a bit confused as to who is running the competition and where they are based.

OK< in that case contact the DIA for clarification on whether they are following the competition laws, by charging you that extra fee.

Here's some light to it. WTV is a NZ based company and it broadcasts Asian channels here in NZ. For example: Channel 28,33 and 29 on Freeview UHF.
Their website is: istars.co.nz (you may be able to roughly translate it through Google Translate Cool

Wow $400 fuel surcharge is outrageous. I can't believe that transporting a person and baggage could use anywhere near that much worth of fuel.

Yes, $400 worth of fuel to fly 9000 km is completely ridiculous.
