I tried to do a time-lapse series of photos to compile into a video but I didn't clear my memory card! Only got a few frames.

But here's one of them.

Taken in Christchurch.

SaltyNZ: We were able to see it through the break in the clouds through a black plastic garbage bag.

Is that safe? I wouldn't have thought so...

I didn't see anything, what did I do wrong. I saw some photos my friend took, they saw it. I live in Te Puke had my camera and sunglasses ready at the right time but didn't see a thing, just the sun as usual. I did notice weird dark blue gloomy lighting but nothing else. My friend was in rotorua, not that much difference surely.

Is it just that my camera was so blinded by light it couldn't pick it up? I don't really get it what am i missing am i immune from seeing the eclipse? what is so great about this video..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_dTrZOZbqA

I'd say it's as you suggested, the sensor was probably overwhelmed or something. In that video you posted, you could see the actual eclipse in the lens flare.

yes i noticed that my images look like the sun in the video though, just a bright round disc. So in the video that bright round disc was not a bright round disc and just looked like that due to the camera not being able to cope with the amount of sunlight?. Bummer, in 2028 im going to have welding helmets and tinted lenses galore

I still don't get it , if it is 76% coverage why does the sun still look round?
