Why use NZPost?
Got something sent from Italy for my wife via DHL.

Turned up in Akl friday (according to DHL website tracking) after leaving supplier in Italy on the monday morning over there.
Got a call saturday morning from DHL saying Customs wanted "MONEY"!!
They explained why and how much. Gave credit card no over the phone to DHL in Akl for the $NZ110 customs wanted for an item of Euro265 inc free freight with DHL.

Item turned up at our Rural address monday morning.

Say again.
Why use NZPost.

BTW. Major brownie points for leather Italian handbagWink

I've asked NZ Post to either confirm or deny that there are only 4 people handling all the parcels but they declined to comment.

There is no excuse for short staffing, when NZ has such high unemployment. I would ask to be put through to their manager or CEO to complain about it. Or write a letter of compliant to their CEO. Also it is not particularly professional of their staff to complain about short staffing to their customers, and their management would probably want to know that that was going on.

really?

this is how the hospitals work

media statement: "we are short of nurses"

talk to the clinical services manager: "we are only funded for 4 nurses but we need 8 nurses to run the roster"

talk to grad nurses having difficult time finding a job: "my application was rejected and i am still looking for a job"

My tent was delivered this morning. Tracking still has it in Auckland, not yet given to the courier for delivery :-)

We bought some presents for xmas through Amazon on Sunday morning NZ time, with the cheap delivery of two to three weeks, and we had it here in Wellington on Friday the same week...

YMMV ;)

A tip:
If your parcel is coming in from USPS, sign up for their complete track and trace email. You can sign up for alerts on status changes too. I got the "Track & Confirm e-mail update information provided by the U.S. Postal Service" yesterday. It shows every scan and rescan on the parcel. While NZ Post is able to change dates & times by rescanning which, they say, overwrites earlier data "but doesn't change things because the current status is always accurate", the USPS tracks every move and every scan.

Useful if you get into a disagreement with NZ Post over how long they have held your parcel.

Hospitals are government run and funded, so not a fair comparison.  I was talking about private companys which as an independent SOE, NZ post effectively is effectively a private company.

I've been having a lot of problems with NZ Post deliveries to my home address so, with another parcel coming, this time just from Auckland, I decided to be smart and get it sent to a work address. The parcel went out with Massey University, Palmerston North clearly labelled. Between pickup and delivery, someone crossed this out and wrote ALBANY in big letters. Yep, you can guess where my parcel has ended up. It's taken two days to trace it and now it will be picked up for redelivery on Monday.

Although that isn't good, Massey university have campuses throughput the country, so I asasume that the person didn't know this, and thought they were doing the right thing.. You are lucky it didn't end up in Wellington.

Looks like Campbell Live is doing some sort of story on NZ Post tonight.
Not sure if it's related to the issues in this thread, might be worth a look though.

jayveeee: I recently used the NZPost online address finder to validate an address. I stupidly chose to use the address the finder gave me rather than the address the sendee gave me to use - bad decision. It took 26 days to reach its destination when it should have only taken 1-3 days. No wonder NZPost are losing money.

Putting up the price of sending letters was a bad decision too I think, because it just means that people will think again about sending stuff by mail. If mailing was back to 50cents, I believe more people would use them. I have ad problems with nZ post not delievering things and returning them due to incorrect postage, even though the staff at the post shop sold me the stamps to put on the item.

NZHerald has an article on Book Depository deliveries arriving very late - I had noticed my last Book Depository order about 6 weeks back took nearly a fortnite longer to deliver than I had come to expect from them - I had nearly given up when the first item arrived, with the second a couple of days later.
Sounds like it might well be NZ Post rather than the overseas end, as they have given the Herald the same quote they gave MF upthread.

i-Parcel notified me last week that two of my Amazon deliveries had been received in NZ. They gave me the NZ tracking numbers. I also have a parcel coming via UK's Royal Mail - this shows arrival in NZ over a week ago. NZ Post tracking has a status of "not yet tracked" for all three parcels.

I am so seriously annoyed with NZ Post. All three parcels are now way outside expected delivery times and all three are needed for my summer holidays. Only one more day and its too late as I will be gone :-(

i-Parcel, which handles the Book Depository and Amazon deliveries is pretty hit-and-miss through. Another order of mine was addressed with Manawatu being shown as MA. Those ended up going to Massachusetts!

Yet another parcel, coming from Tauranga, took 5 days to arrive by overnight courier with NZ Post. A parcel I had misdirected to Massey University, Albany that should have come to Massey University, Palmerston North last week has arrived in Palmy - I paid for Massey to reship by NZ Couriers rather than take the risk of it disappearing into NZ Post's black hole. NZ Couriers picked it up Friday and it was delivered this morning.

One of the parcels NZ Post said hadn't arrived in the country suddenly arrived and was scanned exactly 20 minutes later.

I had this occur to me, but I think it was considered in NZ, once it was handed off at the International Processing site in the UK, as it said it was in NZ about the next day after it shipped, which didn't seem feasible.
