The problem with "PC" is that they take their rights to extreme and forget their rights end where someone else's rights begin.

In other words, PC is a repressive representation of a minority in society.

It's utter bull.

I'm not surprised the local iwi are up in arms (although I think they should HTFU and get over it), but I was gobsmacked that DOC sided with them.

I think it's symptomatic of the wider nonsense in this country.

There have always been a small group of self-centred nutters who run around whining and complaining about anything that irritates them. Anything from the flowers you planted in your garden, the contents of your childs lunchbox, or the colour-scheme of trains was enough to set them off. Mostly, they used to content themselves with writing crazy letters to the editor and bombarding MPs with crank correspondence. The rest of us would get on with our lives ignoring them or, if they were particularly crazy, mocking them.

In the last 10 years or so there seems the expectation seems to be that the rest of the country will walk around on eggshells, terrified of offending any attention-seeking sad loud nutter with a personal fixation on something, and cravenly apologise when we do. Particularly if they can window-dress their supposed "offence" up with an gender, religious or ethnic veneer.

This group did nothing generally offensive, contravened no laws, caused no harm to anyone, cleaned up after themselves and caused no damage. All they seem to have done is have a bit of fun jumping on a trampoline in the open air. If they had kids with them then those kids got sunshine, exercise and safe supervised fun - which is more than most forms of child entertainment seem to offer these days.

Personally, I hope they refuse to apologise. In my view collective reply to the group complaining should be a robust "Foxtrot Oscar" response, accompanied by a traditional two-fingered salute. DOC, which should know better, will hopefully slink off with it's tail between it's legs.

I also think there are issues with media in the country publishing\airing far too much of this nonsense which then spreads like wildfire via social media, etc, which I guess is what they want... flamebait is great for driving traffic to your site! :)

nickb800: Going against the grain here, but isn't the tramp group a bit silly doing this again knowing first hand the kerfuffle caused by the BBQ incident.

To me their attempt to mitigate it (going to the plateau rather than peak) was a bit pathetic, I suspect they just enjoy the publicity/exposure

As far as I know eating at the sacred sites is specifically against the rules, I don't know where it is stated that lugging a trampaline up a mountain is against the rules.

Interesting thought on the plateau, as they say that the peak is sacred.

I am waiting for DOC to yell uncle after getting snowed under by everyone who wants to visit a national park ringing them and going through their entire gear list to ensure they are not going to carry anything "offensive" with them....

BBQs on top of the mountain peak could risk starting a fire so that was so may have been a bad idea.

But I don't see how jumping on a trampoline in sight of a peak is insensitive to the mountain's mana. Auckland would be full of insults to its volcanic cones.
