Only been to two concerts in my life, The Eagles Farewell Tour 1 in Sydney a number of years back, and Iron Maiden when they were last here (4 yrs ago ?)....

Both concerts were great, would do again :)

networkn: John Farnham is unbelievable in concert too. Really flawless voice, interacts with the crowd.

I've never seen John Farnham live, but he would be near the top of my list along with Billy Joel. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to see one of them one day.

The best concerts i've been to were the two that I've attended at the Bowl of Brooklands in New Plymouth; Fleetwood Mac and REM. The acoustics are far from brilliant, but there's just something magical about the atmosphere at that venue which more than makes up for it.

I have seen JF twice. I was so impressed the first time, I went to Australia the second time to see him. I saw him when he was with Stevie Nicks. Everyone was there for Stevie, but he stole the show (People had to keep pointing Stevie toward the Audience she was so out of it. He got the crowd CRANKING. If he toured in Australia again I'd go again.

Billy Joel actually goes into my Disappointing Categories sadly. I am a huge fan, but live he left me cold (there were a fair number of good bits, but not near as many as I had expected.)

I would give him a second chance if he got down here, but I would go with reservations and lower expectations.

2010 was a huge year for music concerts for me, I'll never be able to top it. I was in Chicago over the summer, and saw:
Counting Crows, George Thorogood, Quintus McCormick, Tom Petty, Carlos Santana, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Stone Temple Pilots (with Cage the Elephant as 1st act), Jack Johnson, Jethro Tull, The Steepwater Band, Robert Randolph.
At Lollapalooza I caught: Soundgarden, Wolfmother, Mumford and Sons, Blitzen Trapper

But if I had to pick "one" concert as the best ever it would be Clapton's Crossroads Festival. It went for around twelve hours with one stage and less than 2-3 minutes between sets. They had a revolving stage for the musicians to set up. And Bill Murray was the MC!
The best highlights were:
Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, ZZ Top, Gary Clark Jr, Jeff Beck... many others.

That was an amazing 3 months :)

Either strungout in wellington back in 2001 or something, or NOFX at big day out in 2002. Bands that know how to work a croud, for strung out paid no more than $30 and had a great time. Bugger paing $100+ to see one band

Guns and Roses in the Tokyo Dome was my favourite

Some performers are really poor live, and some are way past their best. But that is the main way many make their money now, so they have little choice.

Went to see Josh Groban last night. I first saw him on Allie McBeal quite a number of years back now. His voice is stunning and he was interactive and a little funny. All the songs I wanted to see were there, though the one I went to see was composed differently than on the album and I didn't like it as much (Softer and less anthomy). Behind Celine Dion and Elton John, possibly the best voice I've heard live.

The concert was great, but not very exciting.

He did a Drum bit that was pretty good. His Guitarist and Musical director bears an insane resemblance to Randy Jackson, judge on American Idol.

Highlight of the night was the first song he performed with a choir which gave me goosebumps.

Jealous to see Rodrigo Y Gabriela on it too - I got into them two weeks after they played an Auckland gig and their last scheduled gig here was at a festival that got canned...

Probably some others I can't recall off the top of my head.

We were there too - it was a great night out!

The girl beside us was one of the girls who submitted questions who he interacted with. She buzzed all night about it. I was actually surprised that there was a significant number of young people.
