Smith is good, but I really miss David Tennant. He was brilliant for the role. And Rose was my favourite companion. I have a soft spot for her. And a hard spot.

Another season of Tennant would have been great. He's an incredible actor. Billie blew me away too - I had no idea she was that good an actress.

Would have loved Eccleston to have stuck around for a season or two more - he's one of my favourite actors, full stop.

I'm grateful for the audio adventures. There's loads of awesome Paul McGann 8th Doctor stories out there. Shame we'll never actually see them come to life on the screen.

BurningBeard:

Moffatt has stated he's closer to the end of his Dr Who writing career than the start.

That's sad news! Moffat has written some brilliant episodes. Loved the whole Melody Pond storyline, from "Silence in the Library". My favourite Dr. Who episodes have been SM's - Blink and Girl in the Fireplace.

freitasm: Also note Smith will be leaving the show after the Christmas special this year, when the 12th Doctor will take over.

"Allegedly".

Wouldn't trust the source of that rumour (The Sun) too much; nothing confirmed (or denied either, for that matter) by BBC.

This Radio Times article suggests he's back for series 8:

Coleman also revealed that due to her co-star Matt Smith's busy filming schedule - he recently landed a role in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut How To Catch A Monster - production on the next series will not begin until September.

Most of my favourites are from The Moff too - The Empty Child ("Are you my mummy?")

FYI the "Great Intelligence" that was in the Xmas special, and, according to the Gallifrey forums, the new big bad guy, has been in early Doctor Who episodes twice.

Also, those episodes are missing/incomplete in real life. The Doctor couldn't quite remember the Great Intelligence... is he losing memories that are in line with missing episodes in real life?

Just a thought.

I voted The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances.

The first time I heard "are you my mummy" was proper scary - like the show was for me when I was 8 years old.

The ones that really spooked me as a kid back in the day were The Green Death and Terror of the Autons. Nightmares.
