Actually Verizon's service does not have any 'fair use' limits, they do say running servers is against their ToS.

1080p: Which means it is not possible to do so, at least not in the same manner. Hence the difference between the internet here and the internet there.

You are confusing price of the Internet with quality, and even then only at the most extreme edge use case that ears little to no relationship to how 99.99% of people use the Internet.

They have a clause against using it for 'high volume purposes' which amounts to the same thing I.e. an undefined amount of usage at which they decide you are assuming the connection and they move you on.

Restrictions on Use. The Service is a consumer grade service and is not designed for or intended to be used for any commercial purpose. You may not resell, re-provision or rent the Service, (either for a fee or without charge) or allow third parties to use the Service via wired, wireless or other means. For example, you may not provide Internet access to third parties through a wired or wireless connection or use the Service to facilitate public Internet access (such as through a Wi-Fi hotspot), use it for high volume purposes, or engage in similar activities that constitute such use (commercial or non-commercial). If you subscribe to a Broadband Service, you may connect multiple computers/devices within a single home to your modem and/or router to access the Service, but only through a single Verizon-issued IP address. You also may not exceed the bandwidth usage limitations that Verizon may establish from time to time for the Service, or use the Service to host any type of server. Violation of this section may result in bandwidth restrictions on your Service or suspension or termination of your Service.

The other issue is that in NZ your unlikely to achieve the same level of performance on an NZ based ISP.

Overseas ISP's are much more likely to actually let you use your connection to its full potential, NZ ISP's have sad contention ratios etc.

We can argue till we're blue in the face (and it's been done here a few times) the GZ folks who work in the industry swear that NZ broadband is good and holy and there not ripping us off, and those of us who are mere consumers are convinced that our major ISP's make too much money, and are greedy pricks holding down our service levels for higher profits.

hes reasonably well known in the torrent community, specifically in anime broken the 2PB total uploaded mark on atlest one site that comes to mind..

not matter how you look at it though, 77TB is pretty ridiculous for a home connection..

just doing his part in sharing linux distros right ;)

So one hand you have people who live and breathe broadband economics, people who literally get paid to be experts in this field, often posting on here anonymously (so not promoting their specific employer) or who aren't actually employed by an ISP at all, like sbiddle in his recent blog post, who say the infrastructure is good.

On the other hand you have consumers who generally know f all about the actual costs of providing broadband relying entirely on anecdotal personal experience or what sensationalist journalists, who also know nothing, are saying.

Hmm, which has more credibility.....?
