Handsomedan: I have always enjoyed Wildfire at Princes Wharf.

Gotta love meat though.

+1 to Wildfire.

If its meat you after then I can also highly recommend Bushmans grill, 31 Northcote Rd, Hillcrest, Auckland

trig42: Hop on the boat for a day trip to Waiheke if you get good weather.

Te Whau Vineyard Restaurant is really good (lunches), as is Cable Bay. Oyster Inn over there is making a lot of noise and I hear good reports. Wai Kitchen for a great café. The owners of that also have Toru in Ponsonby Central, where you will find other good eats.

It is a kind of expensive day trip (ferry tickets will be $70+ for two of you), but if you are being a tourist, you should see it.

Sounds like a nice trip, and got some fancy restaurants that island :)

Zap2 in Balmoral, or Zap4 in the CBD.
It's a simple setup (simple seating, simple service) , but the man oh man the Thai food is awesome.

Jaxson: Mexico I think it's called, on the north shore. Sort of communal dining, and it tasted awesome.

That looks like a nice place. Will try to visit in Auckland or Hamilton :)

That looks good. I am more interested in good food more than seating and service to be honest :) But often it goes hand in hand for good food, although not always. Plenty of posh places with forgettable food.

jarledb: Any good Thai places in Auckland?

Ah.. Thai places in Auckland:

one of the best I have been to (in Takapuna):
http://www.aroydee.co.nz/

One of the most popular places in auckland. opposite sky tower in the city:
http://www.maithai.co.nz/

One of the more classy Thai places, in Stanford Plaza in the city:
http://www.grasshopperrestaurant.co.nz/

I really liked this place, good food, great service and it was quite affordable in Royal Oak, a bit away from the city:
http://www.thaiarcher.co.nz/

One place i usually love to get my lunch from (they have a really decent lunch menu, actually havent tried them for dinner) in takapuna:
http://www.tipsiam.co.nz/index_1.html

Besides these, I could also recommend:
In Parnell:
http://www.blueelephant.co.nz/

They have really good food at the Blue Elephant, a really nice environment as well. It is a premium place thought, dishes were more than 20 bucks each.

In Remuera:
http://www.thaivillagerestaurant.co.nz/
Really love this place, it is set behind the streets, at the back of a small garden type area. Really liked the food. So was a nice place. I would go here again.

In Botany:
http://www.nanathai.co.nz/
i have been here a few times as well, they do have realy good food, but it is quite far from the city - still worth mentioning.

In Mt Eden:
http://www.thaieden.co.nz/
Been here once, it was very nice food. Just havent gotten around to going there again really. Does have quite a nice setting. And there are a few bars and other places around the area so its a good environment i guess.

Hmm, that is all that i can think of that I can recommend. I have been to a few others, but didnt enjoy the food much - Thai Jungle in Balmoral, Tusk in Balmoral. Wouldnt recommend those 2.

I should note. I am a vegetarian so have tried pretty much a lot of the vege dishes at most of these restaurants (tofu instead of the meat)

OMG and http://www.thaicorner.co.nz/ which is just amazing.  The dishes are very rich, though, so be sure you're good and hongry :)  Their pad thai is one of the best I've had, perfect balance of peanut and tomato and spices.
