My dear Geekzone friends, wife and I are going to be tourists in Auckland for a week in the end of august, would love tips on good places to go spoil ourselves.

What are your favorite places to go eat in Auckland?

When money is no object:

* The French Cafe, on Symonds St, CBD - and seriously, money had better not be an object if you eat here
* Totara, on SH17, Albany

If you just want some nice food and are passing through:

* Bian Sushi, Symonds St
* Betsia Kebabs, Symonds St

I have always enjoyed Wildfire at Princes Wharf.

Gotta love meat though.

Went to Soul last time I was there and it was fantastic. Great atmosphere.

Also went to Ponsonby Rd Bistro a while ago when my cousin worked there. That place is also fantastic!

Thanks, that was many good suggestions. Totara looks like a nice place, and The French Cafe as well.

You should come to Oslo for dinner sometime, that will make anything in NZ look affordable.

Hop on the boat for a day trip to Waiheke if you get good weather.

Te Whau Vineyard Restaurant is really good (lunches), as is Cable Bay. Oyster Inn over there is making a lot of noise and I hear good reports. Wai Kitchen for a great café. The owners of that also have Toru in Ponsonby Central, where you will find other good eats.

It is a kind of expensive day trip (ferry tickets will be $70+ for two of you), but if you are being a tourist, you should see it.

Mexico I think it's called, on the north shore. Sort of communal dining, and it tasted awesome.
