My suggestions:

1. Hook up a DVD recorder to Freeview and/or your Sky decoder. Transfer films & sports matches etc that you don't have time to watch and that look interesting to your laptop. Encode to MP4 if you need to fit a decent number on it and/or get an external drive. Then catch up on viewing in the hotel without paying their PPV rates. If the lappy has the right connectors, you can even plug it in to the TV in your suite.

2. Buy a decent ebook reader. I love reading, and have just replaced my Kindle with an Aura (which is great). Enjoy the quiet time to catch up on some relaxing books. You can fit a whole library on one of those.

Yeah my kindle has 700 books on it, so my reading is covered! (580 odd unread). I do like the idea of recording shows. Our Mysky has plenty of stuff I haven't got around to watching.

Gyms, get a membership that has gyms throughout and use the chance to get fit/stay fit.

You will be eating out a lot and consuming bigger/fattier foods.  I put on a lot of weight when doing a similar thing and really wish I had worked out more

psychrn: Play games like Geocaching and or Munzee.
Get you out and about exploring and some exercise in walking.
If you have a smartphone you can download the games and play

+1 for geocaching.. awesome for someone that drives a lot!

I second this. Ingress is great for getting out and exploring new areas. I also have some invites available but only for the resistance.

mudguard: Ok, so I start a new job next week. 3 weeks in 4 I'll be all over the country, and staying in hotels most of the week and back home for weekends. Quite often my day will be done around 2-3pm each day. So my question is, what to do with my time afterwards?

My colleague has done the role for the last five years and wished he'd made better use of it. Daylight hours I'm fine, I'll either have my golf clubs or mountainbike. However obviously it's not light all the time. I don't really want to just watch tv or drink!

I'm thinking about learning another language, I'm not really too keen on any formal extra curricular learning, but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for learning a language. I will be driving a lot, so will be able to listen to my iPod etc.

Has anyone done this before?

Night rides and night golf. Sorted!
