Cars backed up everywhere you look in CBD. That elevator shaft in Luke's Lane looking very precarious, if it hadn't had that work done I'd say it would not be standing. Cops got it cordoned off.

A bummer going home Friday nite in Wellywood with all the trains and buses stopped. When I lived there in the 1970s we used to get small ones about 3.00 ~ 4.00 PM and had to find our own way home, no trains.

Regards,

I want to know why Rotorua never feels anything , Hamilton , Auckland, Hastings Taupo all felt it. Nothing, feel left out.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I'd complain. You were supposed to feel it:

The quake has been felt in Hamilton, Rotorua and Palmerston North, Nelson, Taranaki and even Auckland.

Interesting, I have never felt an earthquake in Hamilton Before but this was quite significant, very low frequency, perhaps 3-4 secs between direction changes, water in the pool was moving around, lightshades swinging etc. I notice that there has ben 9 quakes around Taihape/ruapehu since ( 3.5 - 5) can't prove they are related, but surely.

Well what can I say except I'm felling sick once again. My thoughts are with all those in Wellington and particulary these in Seddon. I can only hope all is well and that your property, but more importantly, your minds, families and friends are unharmed.

The building we are in is opposite the public trust building in lambton quay, and was strengthened in 2012. I'm on the 12th floor, and we definetly heard the rumble and roar as it approached. When it hit we got MOVED. Was fascinating watching the black Novell building next to us swaying like a flower.

Frightening too.

mattwnz: I don't think it felt as bad as the big one a few weeks ago, which I think got downgraded anyway. As long as they don't get worse. The rolling ones aren't too bad, just make you feel a bit woozy. The severity rating is more relevant than the number.
The experts did have a 20% prediction that there would be another one over 6 which is quite low odds, so their predictions are a bit off. I don't think they should make those sorts of predictions.

That such an earthquake occurred after a 20% chance was defined does not in any way mean that their predictions are off.

Obviously. If they said there was a 1% cahnce, then the prediction would still be correct. But saying 20% is a relatively low figure, that may have lulled people into a false sense of security. I would prefer that they didn't make such predictions using percentages, as they really don't know.

Geonet don't predict - they give probabilities.

I felt it in Hamilton, I had my office chair leaned up against the wall and for a moment could feel motion (like a dizzy feeling) which I thought was weird, then noticed the Window Blinds were starting to bump against the frames
