Yet another actor who has played a marvel character moving to DC to play an entirely different character.

quite like the idea of a "grown up" Batman/Superman movie, but do wonder how they're going to do it.

The whole mortal/immortal angle doesn't phase me one bit...look at Iron Man with his posse of immortals and mortals combined.

I do question Affleck though...he's a bit...I don't know....soft?

I'd rather see someone a bit more granite and gritty...not sure who, but not Ben Affleck.

I was hoping when I saw this thread that there would more news confirming that Affleck will not be the next Batman. No such luck.

On face value I really intensely dislike this casting.

crackrdbycracku: I once read a Judge Dredd / Batman crossover and it was actually really good. It featured Judge Death singing Sympathy For the Devil with changed lyrics such as 'I'm an alien super-fiend'. I also doubt that Hollywood could pull that off on screen.

Nothing that appeared in Starlord or 2000AD has ever really quite translated to film.

Closest was the latest iteration of Judge Dredd.

It was close, but not quite perfect...

Besides the DC comics animated batman movies, I think all of the batman movies are either cheese or lacklustre. Not unworthy of watching, but not worth remembering or discussion.

Ben Affleck? I honestly can't remember watching any of his movies. I thought for a second he was the muppet from There's Something About Mary, and was vaguely trying to come up with a quip about batman with semen in his hair, but that was Ben Stiller apparently.
Come to think of it, why did I ever watch a Ben Stiller movie... probably just young and not knowing any better.

Good reason to not see the movie, methinks.

Oh, Oh, Oh, but as Jay said Ben Affleck was the bomb in Phantom!

Nobody can take that away from him.

insane: This must be a troll, there is no way he could play a successful batman

I disagree, depends on the focus of the movie. If it's more comedic I expect him to do reasonably well. No-one thought Tom Cruise could pull off Jack Reacher and he did a fine job.

I'm with insane on this one as I can't see Ben Affleck portraying the brooding, dark or disturbed Batman which seems to be the normal graphic archetype. But I agree that he's been played for laughs before so Aflleck has enough range to be Batman-lite: remember Daredevil.

Regarding Tom Cruise. He did a good job but the movie worked because it would be hard to stuff up such a good story. The problem for me is that I was always watching stock-standard Tom Cruise. He didn't play Reacher any different than parts in other movies I've seen like in Knight and Day. He never produced the menace of Jack Reacher in that book. He did a much better job of Oblivion.

I'll wait and see since he's playing a bad guy (sort of) in "Runner, Runner".

I think he'll do well tho.

I'm not an Affleck fan by any stretch but I can easily picture him as a cynical and arrogant Bruce Wayne. Its just a little bit of a shame that they're not going to follow the implied Dark Knight arc and replace Bruce with someone younger.

I'm sceptical as well, superficially i can't see him fitting into the role, but then i thought Daniel Craig would be a crap James Bond when that was announced, and actually think he has been one of the best so far. The story writing and directing make a big difference though.

The Dark Knight remains one of my favourite movies, but a lot of that is down to Heath Ledger as Joker, and how amazing it looks in Blu-Ray.. Christian Bale definitely does dark and brooding Batman well though

networkn: I just don't get putting a mortal with an immortal in a super hero movie, the balance would be stupid. I've never understood the concept I don't think I ever will.

It can work if the writer is a genius. The Dark Knight Returns is includes an appearance by Superman which actually works very well but ... Frank Miller is a genius, and the art is also amazing although I can't remember who did it.

Hollywood treatment? Well, that's a bit different...

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson did the art for TDKR.

Checkout the DC Animated TDKR - it's pretty good.
